Title: warped brake pads?
Post by: Cory on 14 August 2012, 20:50
i noticed quite alot of wobbly feedback under braking whilst driving earlier. i had an enthusiastic 3 hour drive back from newquay the other night, and used some pretty big hills in the process, and noticed quite a strong burning smell when i got out the car. kinda smelt like a burning burning clutch, and as its near the end of its life anyway i didnt really take mutch notice. wondered if i may have warped my brake discs?

the only other thing i can think of is that i have a bit of play in the drivers side track rod end.

gonna have an inspection session tomorrow and i know it sounds stupid but is there anything inparticular to look out for in regards to the warped discs theory. any kind of marks on the disc faves etc?

also could anything else cause that kind of wobbly feedback under braking. loose caliper bolt or something?

thanks in advance for any help/advice
Cory

straight edge across disc or spin it on hub and you will be able to see the warp

Sounds like you have a seized caliper, this could be the burning smell, with the disk overheating, it has probably turned blue in colour, and warped... maybe new caliper time, and new disc's and pads as a matter of course

Had one in yesterday with seized collar sleves. They shouldn't be rusted to the caliper/caliper bolt and should allow the caliper to move evenly.
