85 quid for a windscreen?! Ouch. Don't think I've ever paid over 20 for one from the scrapyard..

The paint looks good! While people will be dubious of the cost of the job, sometimes people do get a good job for not a lot.

In all honesty, £800 would barely cover the paint and materials... If they want to drum up business by working for peanuts, I guarantee it'll catch them out, sooner or later

Looking forward to seeing it finished though

Does this depend on the paint you buy etc? Only reason I ask is that the paint and materials for spraying mine are not even near half that.

Not bought anything myself. The chap who's spraying it said ballpark £70 for the white for the inside and outside the shell and about £40 for the two blues for the stripes. On top of that about £50 for the clear coat, high build primer and satin black for the cage (essentially a chip in cost to cover what I use from his stock as he always has these in quantity). All celly.

For something like Nicks car done in decent 2k products, I use Topcoat on my race car builds, including doing the graphics in paint

5 ltrs of Topcoat colour,
2.5 ltrs of Fast Hardner for the topcoat
2x 0.5ltrs of 2 different colours for graphics
3 ltrs of Primer/Surfacer
1 Ltr of Hardener for Primer/Surfacer
2 Ltrs of Etch/Wash Primer
2 Ltrs of Activator for Etch/Wash Primer
5 Ltrs of Best thinner
2 Lts of Gun Wash
2 Rolls of 2 inch masking tape
2 Rols of 1 inch masking tape
1 roll of 3M fine line masking tape for masking graphics
1 Tube of PU based Seam Sealer
1 Ltr of Stone Chip Underseal

Allow for...
Body filler
At least 20 Gringing Disc's
20 Sanding belts
100 40grt DA sanding disc's
50 80grt DA Disc's
50 Dry sanding Disc's (320s typically)
10 Sheets of Wet/Dry
MIG welding Gas and Wire
Miscellaneous Shot blasting
0.5 Ltr Polishing Compound
Various Polishes and Waxes
2 Polishing Mop heads
Masking paper
Plastic sheeting
Polishing cloth

And there are plenty more incidentals that should be factored in, but the customer wouldn't get directly charged for...

Lighting
Heating
Insurance

And then the dreaded Labour has to factored in...

Lets say 2 men, 3 weeks work, and they both want paying £500 a week each, which is fair, as its very hard graft!

And not even mentioned VAT

Eye opener isn't it!

Thom

Cheers for that Thom. I guess being Celly reduces the physical paint costs for mine. As for filler, I bought and did all that myself, same with stone chip in rattle cans, the welding I've paid for a bit at a time as it's been done.

I guess mine will come in around £1200 in total after I total up all the bits I bought and did myself.

Are you going the cellulose route based on price Nick? even the very cheap 2K top coats are very good these days, and very durable against stone chipping that you would associate with Track days etc

Nothing to do with price, Marcus doesn't have the kit to do 2K, all his work is celly. To be honest I'm not fussed about stone chips etc as it's a race car. It's going to get binned in gravel, rubbed on armco etc.

Still use Celly from time to time on some of the real old stuff that I occasionally do Nick, so long as you left it long enough to dry, it was always good to flat and polish, key to best finish is heat, and the very best slow thinner you can get your hands on
