Hi. Just bought this GTI but I dont know alot about them. I bought this as a run around as it was going filthy cheap whilst I sell my other car, then this and buy my new one. Its a stage 1.. No idea what that means  Has a BMC CDA intake, forge DV and its mapped. Apparently running 210bhp. My other car is lighter and more powerful so doesnt feel that quick to me tbh. Heres a few pics, needs a few bits doing to it, needs a pair of wing mirriors and a rear light. Also going to re-spray the front splitter as its been hammered with stone chips.

Theres a few issues with it, nothing major just wondeing if these are common problems. One is the interior lights, they work if you tap them... one rear one works sometimes and the other one doesnt, same with the door lights, they seem to work sometimes, then both work, then only one etc... Cant help feeling its something to do with this

Whilst were on that topic, anyone have a wiring diagram for the audio harness or someone who can tell me what colours are the constant live, switch live and earth? The DVD headunit doesnt work atm, but the wires are a mess so will re-wire it tomorrow... properly, thats if who ever attempted it hasnt blown it up lol. Also looks like someones had a fight in the back as the bracket that holds the arm rest down has snapped in two and the rear cup holder is broken. Apart from that its all fairly good.
So my wish list stands at:
Rear driver side light
A pair of electric mirriors with covers
An arm-rest bracket thing, or a blank for the center console
A rear cupholder assembly... or blank!
-
And can someone tell me if the wheels are rs4 reps? Because if they are Ill get my pal to refurb them for me to gunmetal or silver, he owes me a favour

the wheels are worth more than half what you payed an keep them polished   an f17 bad has 1 breaking on here the same colour for your mirrors
-
Ah thats good to know. I think its too late for them, they're already bubbling under the laquer so I might have to powder coat them all one colour to get them presentable. At one point someone cared about this car you can tell, Ill breath some life back into it.
Ill get in touch with him about those bits, thanks bud.
-
Looks like it has a Anniversary body kit on it aswell if its a genuine or not still worth a few quid plus it looks like its lowered as it sits nice.Looks a bargain that mate if you sort the bits out on it nice find..
-
Lovely looking gti that mate will look even better with a little tidy. Nice price aswell.
Buy a Haynes manual to find the wiring information or even google should be able to help.
eBay for the arm rest bracked and cup holders. They are forever on the bay mate :)
-
Mk4 golfs have a common fault on the doors as there is a solenoid within the door latch/deep within the door.
This causes the door light issue, do you get the buzzer with lights on door open? If you do, you might also get doors auto locking if you don't put the key in the ignition, and alarm going off. So be careful you don't lock your keys in by accident.
For the price it looks good, if it runs okay has an MOT thats great. Like others have said its got some decent aftermarket stuff on it which should things go seriously wrong will pay dividends if you strip her down.
Good luck
-
If you find yourself wanting to spray them wheels please dont il buy them then you can get the painted rs4s lol
-
Thanks for replies. Ill look into that solieniod today. Ive got a day off so going to go through the car with a find comb. Need to clay the paint too as its got tiny little bits on one side that pick off if you get them with your nail.
Its got 6 months MOT on it and runs perfect. Needs the rear passenger caliper backing off as its sticking from where its been sat for a few months with the hand brake on tight.
If I post a picture of the turbo, will you be able to tell me if its a k03 or k03s, or is there any way of telling bar reading the engine code? Also how can I tell which engine it has? I understand there are two types, one with stonger internals than the other
-
http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=89491.0
how to find your engine code
-
Its a t reg it will be a agu with a ko3 unless its been replaced with a ko3s
-

or had a full engine swap for an auq
-
Thanks

Engine bay pictures would help
-
Its an AGU engine, will get a picture of the turbo. Is this the stronger internal engine or not? Most likely just a 200bhp car, which feels about right, feels gutless might have to do something about that :nerd:. Just sorting out this wiring now. Found out what all the wires do with my multimeter. Fuse tripped to IG2 live, fuse tripped to constant live (inline fuse on headunit). Off to get some fuses now, fingers crossed it works. If not no biggy, Ill take the headunit apart and see if theres any fuses inside/ any obvious short circuits. Took me a few mins to find the fusebox haha.
-
Scrap that comment Lol. I was thinking of the AUQ

Other than the turbos the main differences between AGU and AUM are that AGU has a large port head and cable throttle, whereas AUM is drive by wire with VVT. I've also read somewhere that AUM has bigger injectors, although I don't know how true that is.
Putting a KO3s on an AGU is widely seen as a good combination
-
AGU is the stronger internals mate yes and is 180bhp as standard so if it had a remap it proply would push around 210-220 break :)
Very jelouse
AGU is 150bhp standard, AUQ is 180bhp. With a remap along an an AGU you'll be lucky to see 190bhp.
Have a look here for more info about the engines:

How much are ko3s tubos? Anything bigger I can bolt on? I tried to get a picture of the turbo so but its so damn small I cant even see it as its tucked behind everything, so ill assume its a ko3 hairdrier piece of rubbish. Got some more pictures
Heres my sick dumpvalve  it doest even fire. I had a quick look at where the vac to inlet goes to and the answer was to the floor lol. Ill get a little clip put on it. Where its supposed to be connected near the bulkhead on that little line had been blanked off.

Filter, I dont know how much these are but I used to have one on a nasp car and it set me back enough. Are these the best filters for these cars? Id assume open cone would be becase its forced induction.

Engine bay, looks alot dirtier in this pic than it is, but its only an engine bay

This picture kinda set the tone for the car when I got it yesterday afternoon. Absolute sh!t tip. This is the first car Ive had to wash the inside with a sponge.. After that I hoovered and dis-infected the ENTIRE car inside as it was all sticky and had dog hairs everywhere. Then I went over it with some autoglym interior cleaner I had
(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v305/Tariq9/295901DB-058A-476A-BCA9-BBC546EBF82C-11643-00000D6B7016195F.jpg)
Heres the DVD headunit, it worked  Had to re-wire everything, didnt have a diagram so just used my multimeter

And heres some pics of the interior

I still need to wet-vac the seats as they are kinda a bluey/ greeny colour lol, but Ill take it to my mates bodyshop and do it there. Also didnt have a pointy attatchment for my vac, so going to take the seats out and hoover around all the nooks and crannies properly and I need to paint the legs on the seat too as they are rusting a little. Got to admit, ive got myself a lot of car for the money!
-
Great buy that mate I'm sure u will have all the nigles sorted out in no time.
If the DV pile work is blanked off do u fancy selling it?looks like a forge splitter recirc.
What kind of Miliage is on her then mate (just Beeing nosy lol)
-
Im going to hook it back up later on. But if I dont like it, Yeah sure ill sell it to you no bud. Cars got 120k on it, but seems perfect, super quiet still. Mind you I think owts quiet, the engine in my other car is forged so when its not upto temp it has piston rattle.
Can anyone tell me what the little button in the rear driver footwell does? I pressed it and it didnt do alot lastnight. Also sorting the wires on the sterio seems to have cured interior light and door light problems.
Should have mirriors sorted now car will be on the road for £700, I call that a good deal

Brilliant mate drop me PM then when you have tried Ot out and let me no what your after for it.
120k is nothing for these cars as u properbly no,plenty more years motoring out of her left
-
Going to do the cambelt on it. Took the cover off and its pretty slack tbh, no doubt I could get half a turn out of it if the engine wasnt red hot. Is it hard to do on these??
-

not really but make sure you do the waterpump while in there
-
Waterpump was done about a year ago on it. Didnt replace the cambelt tho  Just had a quick look down the side of the motor, seems to be fairly straight forwards just a little fiddly. Tomorrows job I think!
-
Splitter no longer pepper dashed with stone chips. Gave it a quick pass earlier on. Splitter is cracked in one section but nothing too bad. Ill just leave it tbh as its probably going to get battered with more stones/ speed bumps anyway. Car is alot tidier now. When its time to sell after all of these niggles are done with and ive found a new car to buy, how much should I be expecting it to fetch, was thinking about 1.5k?
Dumpvalve still doesnt fire. Has a little bit of compressor surge under low boost, but non on full boost. Maybe this DV is just quiet
-
Its a forge splitter valve. Actually quite expensive it would seem. Apparently you can shut them up or make them louder by twisting the top, so il do that tomorrow see if I can get it to make some audiable noise rather than it decompressing back across the compressor and coming out of the air intake. Ive got a DV26 on my other car with a spring that doesnt fire untill 12psi, sounds amazing firing at 21psi but Ive read these need engines to be recirculated so I cant get one for this.
-
the agu's can run a dv26 without bringing the EM light on where as the later models cant they have to have recirc or splitter valves... every agu golfs ive bought have had atmospheric dv's fitted and never had any issues whatso ever buddy
-
prob best not askin how much its worth when you told us you payed not far off 500quid
-
had dv26 on my agu load of crap mate took mine for a remap and was losing 20+bhp because of it runnig 007p now got my 20+bhp back stright way.
-
Ta bud, Ill keep this one then, Im really fussed about it making a noise. Its still not firing after Ive twisted it. Will replace the vac line tomorrow with some blue silicone hose, atm it looks like its got fuel hose to operate it which might not be forming a full seal as its really hard and its a little too big with rubbish clips. If that still doesnt work Ill make sure the piston is moving freely.
-
Been having a look at the rear sticky brake today. Thought id find rust on pads as its been stood with the hrandbrake on for a while. Didnt though, wire brushed them anyway, re-greased sliders. Must be a piston problem, Ill take the cover off around the piston, put some lube down there and wind it back with a g-clamp see if that free's it up. Failing that Ill just pop a new caliper on.
Considering I sprayed it in the dark pretty much, the front splitter came out well
(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v305/Tariq9/E129171A-0CA8-47ED-AF61-065918418131-12670-00000ECBDBA7DCBA.jpg)
Car is looking alot more respectable now. Cant wait to get the new mirrors on.

Got my timing belt kit too... Putting that job off untill the weekend though
Also I think im going to spray the wheels.. Unless anyone wants to buy them/ swap with something deacent?! 3 good tyres, a rear tyre is getting a bit bald on the inside due to camber.
-
ive just done a sticky rear on mine mate drop the break line off it undo the to 13mm nuts then pump the arm piston will come out. give it a clean and wind it back in. they done push in
mines all good now back for mot later
did you use rattle cans to spray your splitter???
-
Cheers matey, Ill go do that now since Im bored!
Think Im going to keep this car now as a daily driver. Going to knock my other car off the road and keep it as a track car. Quite like this golf now.
And yup, rattle canned it  I have rattle canned alot of splitters/ skirts in my time now so can get them pretty good haha! I didnt think there was any point of putting it through the gun as its probably going to get stone chipped again, so when that happens ill just spray back over it.
-
Not one of my finest moments - What a divvy.
Anyway there I was tearing the caliper apart when I realised I had run out of brake fluid. Not only that but after I cleaned all the crap off the piston, I remembered it was a wind in caliper! Didnt stop me trying to wind it back in by hand  got one turn out of it then gave up. Kinked the hose, cable tied it up, wheel back on and without brakes shot out of my garage, down the drive round the corner and parked it on the side of my house and left it in gear. Will take the caliper off to a mates garage in the morning to be wound back in and go buy some fluid! Feeling pretty special right now  no fluid lost out of the brake hose tho so no air entering the system which is good atleast lol.

-
put my one back in with mole grips drop of 3 in 1 oil around the piston job done
-
Yeah I left most of my tools at my other house so didn't have any. Sorted now, have fluid aswell now so will bleed when I've got someone to stand on on the pedal. Calliper is nice and free now. Quite ironic that brake fluid can be used to clean up the piston. Might do the other side for good measure too so it doesn't jam up like this one has.
-
Got an addiction to drinking brake fluid...
But i can stop anytime i want...

How much you wanting for the wheels matey?
-
The wheels have 4 good tyres on them, and ive no replacement wheels. So im just going to get them powder coated tbh as I cant be doing with the hassel and ending up with wheels I dont want after alot of traveling around/ messing about.
Well... Im glad I did the timing belt. This was an accident waiting to happen!

New mirrors are here and on.. so much better lol. Also with the new timing belt on car is alot quicker. When I came to time the engine back up, I found out I couldnt time it up to where it was marked where it was taken off...so It was running half a tooth out on the camshaft becuase the belt was so slack and the crank was accelerating ahead of the cams. So thats a 1/4 tooth out on the cam which makes alot of difference. So car isnt as slow as I first thought it was, not a huge difference obviously, but noticable and MPG is up  Wheels are going gunmetal grey on Sunday taking them over to my mate for refurbing. Anyone in Preston got some wheels I can borrow for a day?!

-
Looking spot on now with the mirrors sorted mate. Good news about the timing and MPG aswell :) :)
Did u get your split r valve working yet?ive sourced one Now and is in the post as we speak, can't wait.
Can't help with wheels sorry
-
Valve is sorted too now. It fires. Its alot quieter than Im used to but it still there sort of. Kinda good becuase I want to slip by un-noticed in this car, the attention from loud cars wears thin sometimes when you see every head on the street turn when you even feather the throttle and people jumping out of their skin on boost
