I have a few days away on business and have been given a Golf 1.6TDI Bluemotion 105bhp, will be resetting the trips and testing the MPG. So will be interested to see how it compares to the GTD.
-
Why you got the bluemotion, something wrong with the GTD?
Get some pics aswel...
-
Just a business hire car, gotta use hire cars when away from work. Looking forward to it instead of the usual sloppy Peugeot, or last time it was a Fiesta 1.25 Zetec (gutless).
-
My 2p is on it being worse in similar driving conditions
-
Be interesting to see what you get..... The one I have had for the last 2 days seems to hate using fuel.
-
I wanna see 80mpg.
-
I think on A road 50-60 mph commute 90mpg would be possible with this thing I have been driving.
I take everything back about what I said of the 1.6 tdi.
On the motorway today at 70mph it was doing around the 70mpg mark........
-
Is the OP talking Bluemotion or Bluemotion Tech?
I had the latter earlier on this year and it was about the same if not a smidge worse than my 2.0 140 on fuel. The stop start never gets a look in in the sticks, and the regenerative braking thing feels like slight misfire when the alternator kicks in when coasting. The sort of feeling I get driving the Mk2, sensitive to every single cough and splutter.
-
I think its a genuine bluemotion any way to tell?, its a 1.6 rather than a 2.0 (140).

The "hardcore" bluemotion I have been driving the last two days. It is a very basic trim based on the s spec so plastic steering wheel is the big give away and no rear electric windows........no spare wheel as well.

So basically you might as well just catch the bus or better yet, walk

Same here, just took some photos spill post them on my return.

As Lee calls it, the "hardcore" Bluemotion has a body kit, flush grille and tiny 15" wheels. It also has Blumotion badges front and rear.
If it was based on a Match, rather than an S, I think it would do better. With a set of retro fitted 17-18" wheels, it would look a really nice car, but I guess that's missing the point.

Is it sad to want to do a test between a warmed up GTD and bluemotion on a run matching acceleration, speed and distance?!?!?!?

It's the same kit the ED35 wears so its going to look great with the bigger wheels, as you say though probably undoes some of the mpg gained.

Not a massive difference tho'. It would still be free to tax.

What you have been waiting for https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lOiTFUqu0wY&feature=youtube_gdata_player (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lOiTFUqu0wY&feature=youtube_gdata_player) 75mpg peaked at 76mpg and got the total range to 910 miles. Its reasonably perky too. Although tried to keep it between 60-70 MPH.

Right back now and the Bluemotion is outside awaiting collection. http://youtu.be/xEDxTeJXmV0 (http://youtu.be/xEDxTeJXmV0) I didn't do so well on the way back, but I will let you make assumptions about the speed. Exactly the same journey on the way back 58.1mpg. Overall mpg 64.4mpg for 234 miles, quite impressed. The GTD would never have managed that MPG on the distance without some extremly economical driving, which it wasn't on the way back. To say the least the 5 speed box does 85 in 3rd gear on a private runway.
Apart from the plastic steering wheel the cheap RCD210 with two speakers and two tweeters (none in the rear), no rear electric windows, good seats very comfortable. I actually was quite impressed, it pulls quite well and left a few motors on the lights/roundabouts with ease, in gear acceleration (3rd/4th) is good, don't get me wrong its no GTD and so poor gear pull in 5th at motorway speeds especially on a hill (too used the to the GTD's foot down off we go, regardless of hill angle). But quite drivable, better than a 1.6 TDCI focus (well felt that way). When the mark 7 arrives? who knows.

Love the cackle mate. How would you rate your driving on that run.
1=Sunday Driving Granny
...
5=Up Vettel's Chuff primed for overtaking.
-
That don't look half bad!!
-
I would have said that most cars got overtaken (5). They were all obvious going slower than me. If I had of done that in the GTD the MPG would have been at least 10-15mpg less than 58mpg.
-
It's the interior that I couldn't be doing with. I had an S model for a few weeks earlier this year. The plastic steering wheel and gear knob are just plain nasty. It's also suprising how you really miss a nice radio, auto lights and wipers, bluetooth, electic rear windows, privicy glass etc etc.
If they did the option of having one in Match spec, I think there would be a much higher demand for it, but I guess that's where the BMT comes in.

Good MPG - I owe somebody 2p

I have to admit, I don't know what the people are doing that seem to only get low 40's from the 1.6 TDI. I expect they soley drive in town. Even then I believe it would be very short journies. It did have the stop/start tech too and it worked quite well.
