Title: Another question about coilovers...
Post by: Paul81 on 13 August 2012, 16:14
Guys.

I have a 40mm drop on springs and shocks at the moment, love the height at the front but the back is too high so looks like i'll have to go for colilovers (like I was advised to when I first got the car)

I've heard good and bad things about budget kits like Jom & FK, I don't mind paying for something that will be better quality.
Im thinking of having a 40mm drop at the front and a 50mm drop at the back so not exactly slammed.

Can anyone recommend a reasonably price kit that will be reliable and still retain a decent ride quality?

Cheers.

well as per another member who is running JOM (£165) from ebay, aslong as they are not entirely slammed and you havent got junk in your trunk it should be fine.

i am acutally gonna be fitting the JOM's end of the month and will be driving to Scotland and back end of Sept so i could let you know how they are?

and i think it does depend on your areas road conditions too i think

Thanks James i'd apreciate that.

Can you adjust the damping with Joms?

Not sure on that, will be able to tell ya by the end of the month though

I'm also thinking of upgrading all bushes as well. I think on the maintenance section I think there's something on this or email cully who has this set up

FK Streets cost alittle bit more wouldnt you be better of going for a slightly better coilover kit?

Would be but need replacement ASAP before scotland. They come with 2 years warranty as well so I'm gonna give the under dogs a shot

Well the rides bumpy now anyway so wondering if the last monkey with a spanner fitted some type of kit before me. I can feel EVERY bump in the road if I'm honest with you

I think the FK are about 220 or something? And would they really be that bad?

Theyre made in the same factory so basically the same. Apparently fk is more bouncy and you can go lower however how can you argue with 2 years warranty?

2 year warranty is good but it's a risk if they don't offer a decent ride quality imo

i suppose then you could fit something to soften the blow? bump stops are 9.99 from fleabay for 2 btw and ask cully how they ride?

Joms are really good for money imo
I use them on my Bora same platform as the Mk4 but bigger.
I have no issues with them what so ever, they are very comfy even over the bumpy hills of South Wales and handle well.

My advice would be buy them and look after them keep them clean they will last. If they dont you have 2 years warranty to play with.

Helll no. Me my misses and the baby are fine and we have travelled a fair few places including our own area which is ridculous with pot holes etc.
Trust me youl be fine and happy with them.

It only starts getting rough when your running 18" or 19"s and less than 35profile tyres then your back is hurting.
If you stay 40 profile upwards you have no problem in my opinion.
