Title: Wheel hub compatibility
Post by: tonsofun on 13 August 2012, 14:02
I have a slightly odd question please bear with me tho.

I am in the process of replacing a wheel bearing on my VR6, but the hub body is damaged and I don't want to press a new bearing into a damaged hub.
Walking round the local scrappy I have seen a 16v Corrado (4-stud I know)

Since I have a bearing and a press to hand, could I take the corrado hub, press out the old bearing - then press in a my VR6 bearing and put the 5-stud wheel spigot on?
Effectivly making a 4-stud corrado hub into a 5-stud golf hub.

If so I can get my gold rolling again this afternoon :)

Wouldnt the vr6 drive shaft spline be different and therefore make the hub splines different.... By the way i know nothing!

Does the drive spline not locate in the middle of the bearing cartridge?
I intend to press out the old bearing and press in a fresh VR6 bearing, but I need to know if the two bearings are the same size and interchangeable.

I hope this makes sense.

I am sure they are different.
