Hi,
Does anyone have an aftermarket immobiliser fitted
If so any recommendations ?
Cheers
-
Don't hey all come with one as standard these day's?.
-
Was my understanding too, think some kind of tracker is the next step up security level.
Quite expensive and a monthly fee iirc.
-
Does anyone bother with extra security or is the factory fitted alarm etc good enough ?

Don't think you will get many replies to this  putting over the Internet what extra security we have on our cars
-
bluefin can be used as an immobiliser needing the hand unit to reactivate the ecu

An excuse to get a remap, Revo sps switch can also immobilise the ecu
-
He has a remap, he has the vwr stage 1 dealer fit kit.
Not sure who's map that is now Apr, revo or superchips as vwr change suppliers so much.
I have extra security on mine.
I would start with
glass security film
Tracker ( gsm type are cheap enough)
Second immobiliser most are good nowadays.
-
Cheers...i may look into a tracker depending on insurance :undecided:

.........far as i know there cat 1 rated so do the job for insurance companies.

Hi guys I had it together with top rate expensive alarm class 3 plus ...blah blah blah...
They took my GTI away in the middle of the night under my open bedroom window.....not a sound....I buy alarms only to satisfy insurance companies...
-
Maybe it can be of help to you guys to tell you what I did:
Fuelpump can be switched off (switch in a hard to detect place)
OBD-port can be swiched off (switch in a hard to detect place)
Doorlock removed (car can only be opened with keyfob around)
Alarm plus (interior as well)
Alarmtime reduced from 15 sec to 0 sec (Vagcom)
Alarm chirp (Vagcom)
Bearlock (DSG can be locked with a key)
If they take my GTI a second time I will consider it the will of God.

I don't think you need extra security in the shape of an immobiliser as they need the key to drive it away or will just lift it onto a flat bed if they want to take it?
Extra security for me would look like a tracker (but then remember that as tracker systems are not advertised on the car it is only a post-theft advantage to get your car recovered - it won't stop the theft). Secondly, security film if you want to prevent 'smash and grab' with you in the car or when it is parked up.
Most important I think is a good quality insurance policy that covers you with all mods declared etc. as well as GAP insurance so that if it does go, you know you are covered

They don't need the keys any more, you can buy kit of Ebay which can program a new key through the OBD port.
Doing what Erik said above, switching of the OBD port with a hidden switch, should sort that one out.
-
^this may well be common knowledge now but i wouldn't be writing about it on a GTI forum.
-
Mike. are you saying they can do this on VWs (I know it was a flaw in BMWs recently) but not heard of it on any other manufacturer esp. VW?
-
Unfortunately yes, the last time I looked all manufacturers were covered.
Keyless entry makes it much easier as you don't need a cut key or worry about the steering lock.
-
^^ didn't realise that :(
-
The kit they showed for the BMW on the net on the youtube video it has a VW or BMW option
-
It does not matter actually that we write it on a forum ...I think it has more benefit to inform eachother about the posibilities than to make a thief more wiser...mind you he still has to search for hidden switches...or plugs in his apparatus only to find out that some clever d€ck has switched plus with minus on the OBD so his tool gets fried....
The expert thief rules out OBD and uses his own clocks with a key
I would not advise security glass because if you get involved in an accident the fireman will be given a hard time to smash your window in case of an emergency....do not put your own life at risk just to prevent them from stealing your RNS510 ....
A tracker is pretty useless they jam it on the spot or drive it into a truck and away you go...my lease co has be supplying trackers for years and only two cars were found back..
If they really want your car they will succeed since mostly it is all being done as organised crime...you will only be lucky to stop an average burglar....and they are also wandering the streets...but you have to be just one step ahead of those fatherless sons in order to outfox them

My father was a fireman and he said when I had mine fitted on the mk1 many many years ago it was not an issue as they had seen it before. He even came with me when I had a demo of it before I got it fitted. He said it was not an issue and the procedures they use it would not slow them up any. Intact he said the oposite as it stops the glass causing injury to occupants and holds it in one peace. I too was worried but him and his work mates put my mind at rest about it.

Okay that is very good to hear...in fact I am going to do research myself see if it can be retrofitted.
Sorry to misinform
