I loved the RAC when I was with them. Really helpful guys, they always were friendly and helpful explaining what exactly was wrong, how to then sort it, and even went as far as sorting other things they spotted were wrong whilst fixing the primary fault, like seeing a broken earth that connects to the bonnet (does feck all) but they still fixed it. Another guy spent well over the time they're allowed to spend attempting to fix a car when I had an oil leak.

I'm with AA now, but only because it's the company my bank use. Otherwise I'd use the RAC again.

Make sure they'll cover you, mk3's are getting pretty old now.

I've been with the AA for about 7 years now and barely paid any more than I started on all those years ago. When it comes to renewal they also send a ludicrous quotes through and il always tell the bolloxs and get it put back to around £25-£30 each time.

If you have tesco club car vouchers, you can use them to buy RAC cover

I have AA cover with lloyds tsb. I paid a bit extra to put the Mrs on the policy. Only ever used them once when I blew the head gasket on my BMW. They were good as gold to to be honest.

Im with the AA. I pay less than £25 a month, for that i get roadside recovery, relay (they take me and the car anywhere i want in mainland britan) these are available to me on any car i am in, doesnt even need to belong to me. the feature i like the best is the breakdown repair cover. Up to 6 times a year on my megane they will pay up to £500 of parts and/or labour. (I pay my £25 excess then anything over the £500 that they pay!) They are very helpful, very polite and i would seriously reccomend!

Exactly the same here!

Seems like a decent deal, just wonder if anyone has any experience on actually using the £500 claim on repairs?

I used my Lloyds account for the breakdown cover. Worked out cheaper for me and the AA gets called out a lot due to being a vw

My brother recommended The Green Insurance Company for breakdown.
It's damn cheap that's for sure.
http://www.greeninsurancecompany.co.uk/breakdowncover.html (http://www.greeninsurancecompany.co.uk/breakdowncover.html)

Even their full European cover is less than £60 for the year on my car, including home start, roadside repairs and recovery to destination.

I was with the RAC for the past few years but their price just kept going up well over the £100 mark.

How much?

I pay for mine through the insurance company, full care for about £40 a year!

The benefit there is that they can use who ever is in your area. With the AA or RAC, you'll just get those, when they turn up. I've been with the RAC, useless plonkers who haven't a clue.

Me too. It's so much better. I pay £3 more a month for my bank account than I did with the RAC, but I get AA breakdown cover, mobile phone insurance and worldwide travel cover as well as a few other account benefits.

I get it through Barclays along with a load of other things for £15 a month for both me & the missus.

We both get RAC cover that includes roadside assistance, recovery, onward travel, home start and even European cover.

Try ADAC. They're german but you get Europe wide cover. Myself and my OH use them. We haven't had to call on them but my parents who have an aged campervan they take an Europe wide trips have called them out a couple of times and they have been faultless.

You also get a lovely magazine every month that you can't read because it's in German
