So my GTI is a Mk 5 (07 plate) with about 48K on the clock, not long had it but I have noticed that (what I assume is) the radiator fan is often running at full steam and sounds really rough. It's loud enough for me to notice over the top of the radio when driving at low speeds but when sitting in traffic it sounds soo bad. It seems to cut in and run for anywhere up to 5 minutes before cutting out again, regardless of whether I'm using the a/c or driving slow/hard.
Any ideas about possible causes? Is it a common problem? Faulty temp sensors/fan motor? Only had the car a week so will be taking it back to the dealer asap to get them to fix any issues. Any help much appreciated.
Cheers.

If you turn the aircon off and put it in "econ" mode does it still do it? I suspect it wont.
If you open your bonnet at the front you will see two fans, a large and a small cooling fan which run when the ac is on. The small one is prone to failure so the large one runs all the time to compensate.
Unfortunately you cant just replace the small fan both have to be replaced apprentely so I have just left mine for now.
Pretty sure thats what you have. About £300 quid to fix i think from a stealer.

Thanks for the help, had a look just now and thats exactly what it is. Will get it booked into the dealer this week as I just got the car so hopefully it shouldn't cost me a thing
