Hi all, I recently bought a 1.8t agu and it currently has 140,000 on the clock. Seems like a good strong engine still (touch wood) so I was just wondering whether it's safe to have remapped as its high mileage.
Any help appreciated, thanks.

Had mine done around the late 120,000 mark, it did highlight some issues after being remapped (clutch went in a week  )
-
Bah! That's sodd all mate!
i bought mine on 120k, mapped at 130k until 150k, then ko3S st2 until 210k, and now it's at 215k running a ko4 hybrid at 300bhp :)
You'll be fine!
-
Oh right, previous owner told me the clutch had been replaced 2000 miles ago lol.
Will they still remap a car with that mileage tho?
-
s**t prawny, what engine code is that?

Why not, if all is ok the remap should not harm it, however some parts that may getting on a bit may not last so long.

The best one of course  AGU!!

 Im in the Market for a Mk4 gti and keep shunning any over 100k on the clock

Nothing wrong with a 1.8T with 100k+ on it. After all, they pre 2000 so easily over 12 year old now. Well kept after they will last ages.
If renew all sensors with genuine replacements if wanting something reliable.

Thanks for all your help, think i will definately bite the bullet and get it remapped. After i'v upgraded all the bits that is lol.
So far i got k03s, fmic, samco coolant hoses, forge dv and few other bits and bobs, looking round for a decent exhaust system now. :smug:
-
Buy a Forge actuator while your at it, Best mod Iv had so far the OEM ones are pretty weak an dont hold boost nowhere near as good.
Makesure your exhaust is atleast 2.75" from turbo right back for good flow too.
Also rip all the pcv pipes out and replace with catch can as they split terrible and cause vac leaks everywhere.

Thanks for that jamie.
Yeah, still got quite a long list of things to get yet before I start fitting it all to the car and then remap
Only thing is that i'v bought an r32 rep rear so will need the twin exit pipes so probably not got quite as much choice now in terms of exhausts

A good software remap is only as good as the cars hardware, it could blow up straight away after mapping or last 100,000+ miles without issues.
I have had cars go pop on the dyno during stock power runs even before mapping, I have had cars fail on test drive post mapping, but then 98% will never have issues.
TDIs are the worse as they run higher boost from stock and tuned, upto to 1.8bar is some cases, they also suffer from sticky VNT and slipping clutchs.
It rare for me to see a 1.8T with major issues, I had a around 4 cars spit on rods over the last 7 year, most common issue is smokey turbine seals on the turbo due to age and crap oils being used. I have 1.8T engine out there running 300bhp+ with 213k+ on the clocks.
At end of the day tuning is a risk, not with the mapping but the hardware.

Thanks for all the info... think i'l definately be making a trip up to r-tech as soon as all the bits are on the car!
Also, how long does a remap take? Sorry for the questions, never had a car remapped before. Also what price?
-
Stage one would usually take around 3 hours.
-
Would it be stage 1 then that I would need?
-
Stage 2 if you have a agu, fmic, 007p, 2.75" exhuast and k03s.
Would still take around 3 hours.
-
Ok, so it will be stage 2 then.
Thanks for your help
