Title: starter motor
Post by: GTi_James on 08 August 2012, 23:21
so after having a word with my mechanic it seems that the price that was too good to be true really did turn out to be true by the garage who fitted it

so i'm in search of one to replace what i have at the moment because the copper brush is actually too small coz its a crappy part. now i am looking to replace so i was wondering if any of you petrol heads could recommend any particular part as money would not be an issue in this case

many thanks!

A genuine one from TPS if moneys no object. If not a genuine used one from a car being broken on ebay?

squeeling but it wont help cleaning coz the brush doesnt fit correctly to the unit so all out replacement is better, the guy who does my car is a vag specialist and specialises in modded cars too, would he be a better first point of contact? and if i get my hands on a unit would it be simple to fit?

There really easy to fit mate, I changed mine in about 10mins, just take the two big bolts out that also go threw the gearbox, then take the plug off and the positive and its out :)

peice of urine to fit mate. get your self to a scrappy, find a mk4 ask them to stick a battery in so you can check the starter motor works, get it out clean it out while its off then refit to your car. few hours max and wil be pretty cheep compared to a brand new one.
