I would whip your sump off and inspect your splash guard and oil pick up pipe.

^this
last time i had that warning in a car going round an island, it got about 200 yards before the top end starting making awful "i've just been starved of oil" noises
-
as said replace pick up pipe

Do N/A 1.8s suffer the same problem?
I have have been asked to look at a 1.8 A3 as the oil light started flashing.
I am going to drop the sump this week.

All cars suffer from this.

All cars suffer from this.
especially 1.8 20v vw's
(and ssat's are much worse due to a smaller capacity sump!)

To be honest I haven't really heard of blocked pick up pipes on any other cars apart from the VAGs.
Sure it happens with serious neglect on other cars, But its something I am constantly hearing about with 1.8s,
My friends S3 went the other day as well.
What is the main cause of this with these cars,
Wrong oil?
Lack of oil changes?
Bad design of pick up pipes?
or a combination of all of the above?

using the correct oil and changing at the right times, my 1.8t has 180k miles and gets fully syn 5w30

alot of older cars had issues like this. like old ford engines would get blocked pick up pipes.

Mine recently died from a blocked pick up pipe because I didn't turn the engine off quick enough after the warning came on...so def worth a look and replace while ur there as there cheap anyway.
