I think you'll find VW supply a manual one in the spare wheel kit, which is far more in-keeping with the vehicle's ethos.

I'd just like to point out that this modification was carefully executed (in a pikey manner) - the length and diameter of the screw was carefully chosen to suit the application and the OEM locking mechanism was removed when the new fixing was applied.
The screw is also lighter than the original mechanism, ergo it is a racing modification.
