Title: faulty knock sensor
Post by: Turbotezz on 06 August 2012, 21:40
Would this show up on diagnostics?? Have a KTS200 at work but need to get round to putting it on. Been suggested as the possible cause to my pinking

Knock sensor will show up if completely done for. Mine was gone (plastic casing cracked) but still did not really have any pinging but then again ran my old Golf (2.0 2E) on 25-30% E85 blended in with 95 petrol, so higher than normal octane rating.

If you have a 2.0 8v you can use 054 905 377 A instead of the one you have now, cable is longer other than that pretty much the same - however much cheaper!

This sensor is used on a variety of VAG cars; I listed them all in my ebay auction (unfortunately its gone already):

trying to find it on euro car parts but not sure which one it is! Would it be for a 1997 1.8 mk3 golf?? That one comes in at £24 odd??

1.8 mk3 doesn't have a knock sensor - it is supposed to run on 91 (well 75ps one anyway).

This sensor was used on the following mk3's:

VW GOLF III (1H1) 1.6   07.95 - 08.97   74   101   1595
VW GOLF III Variant (1H5) 1.6   07.94 - 04.99   74   101   1595
VW GOLF III Cabriolet (1E7) 1.6   10.94 - 05.98   74   101   1595
VW GOLF III Cabriolet (1E7) 2.0   07.93 - 05.98   85   115   1984

It also works on the other ones, just the cable is a bit too long (I just made a loop with excess cable and fixed it with cable clips to breather pipe).

If you can wait some time order it from here: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VW-Golf-Jetta-MK2-8v-16v-PL-Corrado-G60-Passat-Scirocco-Knock-Sensor-0261231038-/170752517539?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item27c1a4a5a3

Comes from Canada but is only £14 total.
