Guys I'm sure this has been asked befored, I've had a search.
Some previous *lovely* person has rounded a driveshaft bolt on my project car.
Tried the usual hammer and chisel to no avail, any ideas how I can get it out?
I have NO power in my garage also
-
Have you tried getting a pair of mole grips on it has workec for me before
-
I tightened the rest then smacked another sized torx bit in there. That got it out!
I know you have no power in the garage but another way is to dremel the sides of the bolt flat and use a spanner to twist it out.
-
Molegrips, or a slightly different sized bit smashed in there should sort it.
-
You can hammer a socket over the outside of them, should come off no problem and you can tighten them back up using the same method. Top tip is put a load of extension bars together and undo/tighten from inside the wheel arch, makes it much easier...

you need these in your life

they come in 2 sets, on set you get the box. they also do a big f**k*r set which ive got but rarely used.
it still amazes me at what they will grip and undo, worth £20 all day long
-
I second that, I have got a snap-on set of these and they are brilliant, they can really get you out of trouble!

I used to break bolts fairly regular (i used to be a hamfisted loonatic) bought a set of these along with some patience that was on special offer & never ever had to use em pmsl... but they are there.. just in case....

Thanks for all the ideas guys, I will try with some mole grips, my sink slide grips are pants, if no joy I'll try some old bits over the top.
Think I will order some irwin's too.
Will let y'all know.
-
Is it defiantly rounded off? The correct bit that fits isn't a normal Torx bit its got more points on it and fits snugly.
-
Yea it's defiantly rounded, and I have the correct m8 spline tool.
I got fed up with trying under the car so I have now removed the complete engine/gearbox and subframe assembly as one. Hopefully that will mean today I can get up close and personal with it. If I get no joy I will chisel the head off and then extract the remaining stud.
Although tbh I might not even bother as I'm binning the engine/gearbox anyway.......
-
 talk about sledge hammer to crack a nut lmao!! there is room under there to cut the head off with a grinder.........

Well engine was comming out anyway so now I have no excuse not to rebush everything and reprint the subframe lol.
No electricity in the garage
Now I've got to clean the bay up ready for new engine!

btw ordered a set of those irwin extractors and OMFG best buy ever! No more blow torch and mole grips

Well I got the f**k*r out with a hammer & chisel eventually! Next questions guys....
What size are the hub nuts and the steering wheel nut on an 8v.
Also need to fit 100mm flanges to the mk4 gear box, problem is mk4 ones have a single hex bolt, mk2 ones are, I think, the push in type (no hex bolt or circlip under plastic cover).
Will the push fits fit into the mk4 box?
-
Any ideas guys?
-
the steering wheel nut is 24mm socket
-
Thanks dude!
Anyone know the hub nut size?
-
I'm 99% sure its 30mm. And its tight.
Really tight.

Yeah - I Know..... Struggling to get a pair of a 16V... Tried windy gun, heat, Breaker bar and a scaffold pip etc and the fecker won't budge....
Any suggestions?????
-
i used a bit of scaffold (about 4 ft) on the end of a two foot breaker bar, car on ground with wife standing on the brake pedal. The relief when you feel it go is immeasurable.

I'm not looking forward to this ESP with the fubframe off the car!!!
