Title: std boost pressure
Post by: dstv on 05 August 2012, 16:51
Hi guys

Just a quick question regarding boost pressure. I had my golf remapped and at the moment im boosting 0.5 bar = just above 7psi. I read on the forum that it should be around 14.5psi / 1bar of boost. I have a stage 1 remap so why cant I get the high boost..What should I be looking for if I have issues..
I replaced the dv to a 007p with the correct spring for the stage 1 remap.

Thanks

Who mapped it for you and what engine code do you have?

pcv sytem in order those figures you said are correct for a stage 1 on any engine code and should be yellow spring for a mapped car

if it aint it will be split leaking etc making you lose boost time to upgrade to catch can

Who remapped it is the bigger question.

R -tech did the remap....but excuse my stupid question....but when they remap the car, that effects the ECU so how will this increase the boost? Should I get a test done for a leak in my system? and if yes..how do I go about doing that

8psi standard and 11psi on 180bhp mk4.

if your pvc is leaking it will be oily. Look for oily boost pipes/ leak.

Because it is the Ecu (the brain) that controls everything I.e allows the engine to
Run At a certain boost pressure

As people have said check all hoses under the bay for any leaks, best wait is to just replace with silicone including vacuume hoses and then it's all sorte and also delete the PVC system and install a catch cahowlers are how to guides online)

Then try switching the maf and n75 (try do it with someone you know with a Golf 1.8t which is working properly rather then spending money on new parts which may not fix the problem. An of that doesn't work you could try buy a forge actuator

Thats all a good place to start

I just spoke to Ben at R-Tek and he said the fault could be because I have T'ed off from the pipe above the Dv and into my boost gauge that could be causing it... Does this sound right??

thanks for the help. Its going back to the place who fitted my boost gauge so they can fit my new boost gauge  on Thursday....

Hello again,

I have another question regarding the boost gauge..I bought a digital boost gauge and fitted it yesterday,,looks mint,,
Now driving normal my boost figure is for example -7 psi to -5 and when I put my foot down....it go's up to 6 to 7 psi...does this mean im running at 7psi or 14 psi boost...Im back at R-Teck next week for a check up on my remap but I don't want to look a idiot with them..thinking im not getting the right boost pressure...
Thanks
Eugene

if its holding at 7psi then thats what your boosting to it will sit at minus on idle think most ppl including mine sit at around -18-20 on idle but i then boost to around 18psi and hold at 14-15psi thats on my stage 1 map

what is the figure on tickover mate. -7psi is -15 in hg which is about right for normal driving.

Any car runs on vacuum (minus figures) with normal driving. It's only when you reach 0 do you start to read boost (positive figures)

Mine sits at -8 on idle and boosts to 1.1bar (16psi) and thats on a K03 carbon map

Does yours read - psi or - in hg?

mine is in PSI but I can set it to Bar

Something's wrong with that. Vacuum on idle doesn't sound high enough, and boost is clearly miles off.

Either a massive leak somewhere, or something electrical stopping boost, AND a leak effecting vac on idle.

The engine HAS to be producing vacuum on idle, so it's most likely the leak will be on the line you have T-d into.

Mine sits at around -22in hg on idle when warm
