Hi folks,
Looking for some advice, the golf failed its mot under a few thins but my mains concerns are -
1) Steering column universal joint has excessive play
I took the airbag out of the wheel to and the 22mm bolt was moving with the turn of the hand. So i tightend it up and it seems a bit better, but still some slight play. I had 2 new tyres put on the car a week back and has really started from then. The new tyres are proxies where the previous were goodyear.
Could there be a chance the tyres are guffed? The alignment also needs to be done plus the camber.
There is play when the car is switched off.
2) Offside steering rack gaiter split
Checked underneath, and the gaitor was twisted. So I straightened it out and there is no split. Is it worth replacing it as it was twisted?
3) Nearside front brake juddering severely
This one is a corker. I had to change the hub a few months back due to the hammering it took to get the wheel bearing out. The hub i installed was from a vr6. I used the bearing already in the vr6 hub as it looked in good nick. I changed the cv joint too.
Last night I took the brakes and wheel off t find the disc screw sheared off and the remainder of t screwis stuck in the hub. I grinded and rubbed the hub down and used some brake sealer. The juddering aint as bad now however it only judders when you brake softley, where if you put the foot right down, it stops dead with out any juddering.
The brakes and discs where changed 1 year ago and I had a look a the disc and it doesnt look warped.
Any ideas folks?
