Title: Wheels..
Post by: ashw831 on 05 August 2012, 12:59
Hi all, I am in 2 minds what to do with my monza's as they are not in a good way.
The choices at the moment as I don't want to spend a lot are..
I have a friend who can refurb them using paint and make them nice and shiny, or I have seen these on eBay, but I cannot seem to find and pics on google of them on a red mk5..

I only want to spend about £350 with tyres on so am a bit stuck!!

I have got monzas.. I don't know if I should buy the bbs at the top or refurb them!?!

How much are the BBS? Are they original?

Refurbing the Monzas is bound to be cheaper than the BBS if they are genuine. And if they're reps, you'd be better off with refurbing the monzas.

Seems to suggest only one winner???

They are originals, and I can't get them for £300. They have been repaired as they had a crack in one..

Think I will go for the refurb, and get a Decat for less money combined!! :-)

+1, are you going for the original colour/finish or Monza Shadow?

Not going for diamond cut, but are going to be a mix of Volvo titanium grey and silver.. With lots of polish on top.

That is what I wanted to do.. There is no way I am spending £500 on refurbish wheels when I can get some new ones for circa £300!!

I'm amazed you've been quoted so much for a refurb. I recently got some BBS split rims refurbed for my dad, fully stripped and rebuilt and it still didn't cost £125 a wheel.

In relation to the BBS you're considering, I'd still be cautious about their legitimacy for £300, unless of course they need a significant refurb in which case you'd be back to square one.

They have got all of the prints on them to show they are legit, they have been refurbed as they had a crack in one. All fixed up now though and fresh to go!

Nothing seems to be moving much on ebay at the moment though, all wheels are going for not a lot of money - these have been on twice!! I am watching a brand new set of BBS VZ's at the moment, they are only on £165 for 4..

Better pics tomorrow once I have fitted them!! :-)
They are not perfect as the old ones where quite badly corroded underneath and my mate is just an amateur painter, I still think they are awesome!
Will look amazing when they are on!!

Not too bad. Wouldn't have fancied paying much more than £30 a corner for that finish though. Hopefully you didn't have to.

On another note, what are those Maxxis Victra's like? A friend of mine swears by them and yet my step dad, who had a set on a 335d Bmw, says they're utterly useless and turn to plastic below 15c.

So you are just exhaust, induction and FMIC at 298, then you Are having meth on top?? Or am I missing something?
I am not sure about the colour coding tbh, don't know if it is too much of one sold colour... Mine is going to be getting done next- Decat to standard cat back, FMIC map for me :-)

Fair enough, maybe it was the quality of the pictures. I know all too well how to take sh!t pics. At £25 a corner you've done well my old bean, your friend is a good one.

Maybe the Victra's are better suited to cars that don't weigh over 2 tonnes, ie; 335d Bmw. It would make sense as my mate Jake, has his Victra's on a Type-R.....

These are all iPhone pics so not the best really!! And them first two are with my Zenons shining on them!!

On a separate note.. How the hell have you got your k03 to 298 bhp?? I WANT THAT POWER!!!!!!

Yes mate they do look a lot better on. Love the colour of your motor too, it would look spanking fully colour coded.

Here's my build thread, so you can have a gander about my wheels...

http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=225815.0

The next stage is a water meth injection system, I have it from good sources (Hurdy) tha it's good for another 20/30bhp. And the stage after that a APR high pressure fuel pump, I've been advised that I can expect to see at least another 30lbft of mid range torque with yet another tweaked map. I just don't have the means to justify the expense at the mo (£1300-1500).

I'd like to end up with 320bhp and 300lbft. Then if a ko4 conversion is ever on the cards it could be a straight up 400bhp, 400lbft Gti  Obviously if this were to occur an uprated single mass Sachs clutch would be necessary.....

Just had a look through your thread, some good stuff you have done there mate to be fair! So your only running, induction, TBE, FMIC and a new DV and you have hit 298? Who has done your mapping.. I want it, those are the things I want to do to my car next 300bhp will do me nicely!! :-)

Yeah that's all I'm running dude. To be honest the diffence between 270 and 300 brake isn't that noticeable unless you're driving in straight lines. I'm just chasing numbers really for sh!ts and gigs.
