Hi guys, I have a gti 8v and need a new gearbox. It's a 1996 model, engine code is agg. Any idea what gearbox I need? Or the best place to get one?
Cheers

Hi, it should be an 020 DFQ gearbox. There is a white sticker located in the boot somewhere that should confirm the code. Also one in the one of the manuals that came with the car from new. It will definately begin with 020 though.

Do any other gearbox fit ? Like the 16v 02a?

02A is different, but any 020 box will fit, regardless of the three letter code, this is the version and gear ratio code, the 020 code is the shape of the box. fitted to most golfs, from MK3 1.6 etc.. also the MK4 1.4-2.0L Had it, MK3 all had them accept the short block AE series engines has the polo box, and the 16v, TDI and VR6 have the 02A

here's a list of mk3 boxes with ratio's, as said it needs to be an 020 type box http://boneybradley.webs.com/thegearboxes.htm (http://boneybradley.webs.com/thegearboxes.htm)
