Title: What do I need to buy for a head gasket replacement?
Post by: mjamoose on 01 July 2005, 18:05
Sounds like a dumb question at first but This is what I know i'll need to get
Cylinder Head Gasket
Cylinder Head Bolts (x10)
Rocker Cover Gasket
Exhaust Manifold Gasket, maybe new stud bolts too
Oil & Antifreeze
New Timing Belt & Tensioner
Spark Plugs & HT Leads
Carb Gasket

Have I missed anything?
Thanks,
Matt.
Should also point out that it is a 1.6 Mk2 Driver (1990) (2e2 Carb)

I've got all the tools I need, except for the splined socket for the head gasket bolts, a quick dash to chavfrauds to sort that!

Of Steel, mate! Getting it done in less than an hour, will take some photos and maybe to a step by step guide, if i get time, the haynes manual is NOT easy to follow!

Probably too late to say now, but avoid removing the exhaust manifold unless you really have to as you'll probably end up shearing some of the studs/bolts.

Defo get new studs & copper nuts if you do take it off though!  Oh and make sure you take the inlet manifold off and replace the rubber coolant channel o'ring while you have the head off, obviously you'll need a new inlet manifold gasket too.

might be better off getting a head set, this should include everything your need. just make sure you get the gasket up and on the right way !!!!
