Title: How quick is a mk2 with a 1.8t and around 300hp, is 400hp too much?

Just mulling over some ideas.

Seen a few big power mk2s. Are they driveable? Too much power? What's the 0-60 and sensible top speeds they are achieving?

A k04'd 275ish bhp mk2 will slaughter almost anything put in its way. It'll be in the 5(ish) second region to 60mph and you can race all the subaru's, evos, tvrs and wank porsches you can get your hands on!! I'm going 225 from my current 150abf mk2, so 50% gain, plus bundles more torque-cant wait!! Standard box etc in mine, though the mate with the k04'd has lsd + rebuilt box with different ratios etc, I reckon much more than 225 and it'll be a straight line machine only

Ive a mate with a 20v mk2 with all the bits, its still a road car. sits near with a ferrari 455 on local trackday video is on youtube of it somewhere that ill dig out but this car eats sleeps and sh!tes most things on the road, never been rr'd but thought to be around 300bhp, its a work of art

Its not driveable in wet or damp though, spins wheels silly in all gears.

you need an LSD   else it'll be crap  with 300 +  i'd want it to be a plate diff as well.   the atb type are managable but have there issues  even the fancy ones.
then it needs the equal length driveshaft mod.  with the right suspention and aero it'll be drivable

Assuming FWD a mk2 with 300bhp will need to have a LSD & semi slicks to make the most of the power. 400bhp isn't too much you would just need to be more carefull when accelerating to avoid balding your tyres!

My friend had a mk1 with the BAM 1.8t at 260/270bhp with no LSD and it span the wheels up in 3rd with semi slicks in the dry. I think the person who bought it off him planned to fit an LSD.

A 300/400bhp FWD mk1/mk2 needs semi slicks and in the rain they are sketchy so not ideal for a daily!!

i was debating on doing a transplant in mine a while ago but ended up keeping the 8v and refurbing the engine and bay. eveyone has a 20v mk 2 now its getting a bit boring. there was one on piston heads with a audi q7 lump in it think they are 3.7. now that would be fun.
