Post by: spudboy6 on 03 August 2012, 22:37
Going to change my 1.8 cam belt tommza and the water pump stay and all belts , I've done loads of cam belts before but always get nervous when doin my own ,

Anyone got any tips good guides on the 1.8 adz engine for the jobs I'm doing , looks like I need the alternator off to get the water pump housing out ?

Thanks guys

Wish me luck :)

To take water pump off you need to take alternator out - it sits on top of the pump. To do that take both aux belts off then just work your way down the alternator, then take top cam belt cover off, that just unclips.
The go on taking off bottom one, for that you'll need to take the pulley off etc. Personally would just go and get a haynes (I did), cambelt renewal is on page 2a-5 to 2a-9 and very well described for the 1.8 and 2.0 8v engines. Sure worth the 15£...

Yea its very straight forwards on these engines,  the 1.8/2.0L etc, are some of the easiest belts to do, compared to a lot of modern cars anyway, lol.  You shouldn't have any problems.

i managed it in the end but had a right mental break down half way . i managed to time it up three teeth out ( must have moved upon tightening ! )

luckily it didnt do any damage it still ran but had no power , had this prob three attempts but got it right in the end

NEVER RUSH a cambelt (:
