Title: RNS510 - DVD
Post by: MBCGTI on 03 August 2012, 21:50
This maybe a stupid question but reading a few things on here and then looking at my manual for the sat nav system it seems like you can play DVD's???

I take it this is an extra something you can opt for as ive just put a DVD in and it doesnt seem to recognise it??

The DVD shud work without any issues, check that the disk isn't scratched...obviously it will only play the DVD when stationary...

Do you definately have an "RNS" not an "RCD"?

Ive got the RNS510 manual and its full sat nav and reversing sensors.  Tried putting the DVD in and it doesnt seem to register so not sure whether I need to chsnge the setting.

You can get this unlocked for about £40. It's called video in motion.

Or go HERE (http://www.robpol86.com/index.php/US_RNS-510_Video_In_Motion) and do it for free

Try another DVD, it should just come on as soon as you put the disc in.

When you put a DVD in it should play automatically, what is happening? Is it changing from the media that is currently playing to a blank screen?

Press the media button and on the far left of the screen there should be a setting called VIDEO. Press that and see what happens.

Make sure it's a pukka DVD. I had a "cough" back up in mine and it wouldn't recognise it. Not saying they would all be like that but for the purposes of establishing whether it does or doesn't work best to be sure

Tried another DVD and works alright, think it might be because the DVD I initially picked up was one I got from the states and I know that the coding used to be different.

That'll be it mate, euro DVD's are region 2 whereas US ones are region 1. You can change the region your RNS will read with vcds but probably not worth it tbh.

Its not too much of a problem, I only have a few US DVD's.  I am now intrigued to sort it out so passengers can watch whilst driving.

Anyone tried the link above? Im tempted but dont really want to cause any issues with the system itself??
