Title: MK3 VR6
Post by: Yann on 03 August 2012, 20:57
I thought I'd show some of the work I've done so far to my Golf n it's quiet at work!!!

I took my old VR6 for its MOT and it came back with load of problems n with all the rust all over the car it wasn't worth repairing.

So the hunt started for something with less rust n worth swapping the good parts onto. When I found this.

It was in a buliderds yard where it had sat for two years n it had a few problems but nothing to bad having only done 94k n a full service history. So I swapped over the Koni coilovers, 6 branch manifold and system, Audi RS4's n fixed the parts that were broken, heater matrix, glove box front fog lights and passenger seat.

6 branch heat wrapped.

New heater matrix in.

The plan was to tidy it up n get it back on the roads. But then a custom cage come up for sale n that went out the window.

Custom cage

My naphew thought it was a climbing frame!!!

all I need is the bucket seats and a couple of bits and bobs n the interior will be finished. Next up was to sort the exterior, the wings need to be replaced due to rust which I have ordered just wanting on delivery.

Front end off to be replaced with nice new none rusty stuff.

While the front is off I cleaned and sprayed the front.

Fitted a ram air feed.

I've also fitted a stand off kit.

MK4 wing mirrors with carbon fibre covers

I haven't decided yet what to do with the seats, I would like to go the S3 or similar but don't know if my budget will stretch that far as there bleedin expensive but I'm also thinking of banded steel wheels an think buckets would look better, I won't be putting cheap 100 quid buckets in

What was wrong with the first VR6, major rot?
Title: Re: MK3 VR6
Post by: Yann on 15 August 2012, 01:27
Whats wrong with banded steels? The storm gray VR was rotten the talegate was the only panel with no rust n then I took it for its MOT n it failed on quiet a few things and I just seemed pointless spending money on it plus it had been to the moon n back I don't know how many times.

Did you manage to salvage much from it for the new one?
Title: Re: MK3 VR6
Post by: Yann on 15 August 2012, 08:40
The blue one had few things wrong with it when I brought it, the passenger seat wouldn't tilt, the glove box was broke and a couple of others bit but can't think what right now. I had all the parts off the grey one plus it had koni coilovers, pipewerx 6 branch manifold, high flow sports cat n system, crystal rear lights n the RS4 alloys. There was a few other parts on it like green stuff pads n drilled n grooved disks but I never took them off as I'm planning to fit 312mm front brakes oh an it had American cup holders which I put in, plus loads of other parts which were in better condition. I had to scrap it before I could strip it propley as the old dear didn't think it looked good in the garden in bits. Shame because I could have made some money out of it.

That is on Guernsey plates. Is that where it is now?

I wondered how long before some commented on that. I'm from Guernsey an moved to England 6 years ago, I was living down in summerset when I sold it about three years ago. Some fella from Bridgewater offered me 1500 quid for it but the Guernsey sea air had gotten to it an it had started to rot quiet bad the clocks and central locking had started playing up n I lost interest in it, so when I found a note under the windscreen wiper offering 1500 quid for it I shook the blokes arm off. He never took it for a test drive, heard it run nothing. Can't believe some people

I've been busy lately with having to find a new home to move into. which also mean I've lost my garage, not good as its massive. I managed to do a little bit over the last month.
So I've fitted Newsouth Power Gasket Plus Inlet Manifold Gasket
(http://i1161.photobucket.com/albums/q501/Yann1882/79A57892-155F-4AD3-AAB4-9B08F181787A-3975-0000033EB48BA699.jpg)

I've also removed all the rust I found. I'm getting a full respray so I've left it in premier.

And I've adjusted the sunroof which now sits flush and extended the side repeater wiring as I'm fitting a U.S front bumper and will have the wings smoothed. I've had a quote for a respray including having all bits i want smoothed and colour coded, I'm not giving to much away you'll have to wait and see!! So this thread might go quiet for a bit as I'll be saving for little while!!!
