Title: AGU warm up misfire/stutter
Post by: paultownsend on 03 August 2012, 09:41
The car has been mapped, with a forge 008, carbon canister, and pcv delete.
Coming home from work last month, the car stuttered from cold, and misfiring. I cut the ignition. Then it was fine. It did the same next day.

Topher kindly lent me a known working ignition amp. It didn't happen again. I then found a split in the cam cover breather hose. And replaced it.

Then two weeks later, it's happened again. No fault codes, just a misfire when accelarating. And only when cold.

Iv looked at other threads, and i can't find this particular problem.
I know the AGU is a little harder to diagnose than later cars.

I'm convinced the ignition amp is ok, and there are no air leaks

Guessing I would say its either the cts or maf as these don't always throw codes. Could Be wiring to either of these, I would clean contacts to the ignition amp also. I had a similar problem which turned out to be the cts and had no fault codes. It's really a question of ruling each thing out individually

It's been on 2 tb's, happened on each one.
I may pick up a new cts from TPS

the car did this consistently yesterday on the new ignition coil/module.
now when fully up to temp. no fault codes thrown up.

dangerous when pulling out of junctions. but also doing it in all gears under all loads.

it doesn't cut the ignition, it never stalls.  it feels like the turbo is cutting out. im going to fit a boost gauge soon to get a better idea.

bl00dy annoying!

ok. two things have happened.

jubilee clip holding boot hose to TB had failed causing hose to be loosely clamped and half falling off!
seemed airtight but under boost im not sure. think the engine movement was slowly pulling it off.

i cant read fault codes properly   16706 Engine Speed Sensor (G28) intermittent

would this cause cutting out, and the occasional cutting out im experiencing?

is it worth cleaning the sensor? expensive from TPS

Anyone used the ECP FAE sensor? Never heard of that manufacturer before.

AVS sell Febi, which with previous experience don't have the greatest QC.

Anyone know where to pick this up cheap with near VW reliability?
