Title: ECU Remapping firm in East Lancashire?
Post by: Big Dodz on 02 August 2012, 13:32
Hi.
Got a VW Bora 90bhp & was thinking of getting it remapped. There's a local firm BHP UK who have quoted me between £199 - £299. This includes a standard remap and a dyno run. Is this price about right & has anyone used these guys? www.bhp-uk.net is the website and it looks the part...

Thanks for the replies guys. I ended up going with BHP UK (www.bhp-uk.net).
They did a good job. Feels like a completely different car now. My VW Bora now has 146bhp!!!
Feels alot smoother too with unbelievable acceleration & torque.
Do I need to upgrade any parts though and how often should I get a service done now?
Thanks

Your 90bhp Bora made 56bhp from a remap?

Wow.  I need to get a new job.

Hi guys
By the sound of things my Bora ain't gonna have 146hp?
And I didn't pay the extra for the Dyno run & plot?
What is a more realistic gain?

Approx 20 - 25bhp as long as your engine is fit and healthy

Sorry to burst your bubble

Had a customer though who was told the opposite; Ibiza TDI 130 which easily make 165bhp+ all day long.  Stuck it on a set of rollers and got a print out of 150bhp and 217lbs ft (9lbs ft LESS than standard!)

He had one guy in a Leon FR 170 flag him down the other day asking what he had done as he couldn't keep up with it

Here is the graph in question

Sorry I didn't actually mean to sound flippant but what you posted really was a bit OTT.

Agree with the guys, with the small blower fitted to these engines and assuming it's healthy and running on decent fuel, upto 30bhp is a safe gain.. Anything more and you're asking for trouble.

No quality tuning outfit will get caught up in the numbers game... and remember it's not always about the peak numbers anyway, it's all about power bands and who can achieve the widest power band safely.

As long as you're happy, that's all that really matters.  Even 30bhp is a 33% gain which is huge really.  Just enjoy it pal.

Thanks guys for all the feedback. You guys were right the actual gain was alot less. It's more like 112bhp. There was a misunderstanding in the figures. Possible & Actual...
Still, it is alot more fun now. Just gonna enjoy it.
Thanks again

That sounds more like it

End of the day, as long as YOU are happy with how it drives and performs then BHP figures are just pub talk.

We just didn't want you trying to race faster stuff and embarrassing yourself
