I had this on my A3 and it's the same on the GTI. It was like this from factory as I checked. I didn't let the dealer prep the car. It's only visible under high light (sunlight shining directly on it, or if you use a torch on it etc) but when I do notice it it's really annoying. Same as the exterior B pillars, they're swirled like mad, again from new before we'd even prep'd the car, and again I didn't let the dealer touch it.
So I have ordered some black vinyl to cover the B pillars, no point polishing them as it will come back really easily from experience. As for the instrument cluster, I have ordered some clear vinyl and I intend on covering them with that and it should stop light hitting the small swirls and therefore hide or at least reduce them.
Has anyone else noticed this? I can't be the only one, especially when they were fcuked from factory!

annoys the hell out of me too.Same on my mk5 GTI I owned before,so when we got the mk6 I was ready.I only clean it with a damp kitchen towel then dry it with a soft cloth.Your right though in certain lights it looks scratched.

Yeah I have been sooooooo careful but it was scratched from the very beginning
I think the clear vinyl should sort it out as long as I can get it to fit properly. Nowt to lose

I think every single car I have ever owned has had this problem

Yes I noticed it on my old MK6 looked like it had been cleaned with a Brillo pad. Didn't bother me though as sun light was very rarely on the instruments. Not noticed it my ED35 will take a look later.
