Title: Battery stuck in Maglite
Post by: Steve_B on 02 August 2012, 10:29
hi, i have a mini maglite which now has the aaa battery in it stuck in there due to corrosion. Have tried soaking it in wd40 overnight but to no effect. Does anyone have any tips for removing it before i resort to trying to drill it out?

Take the front lamp out and get a screw driver in and try and push it through?

You have to take the battery out before you can remove that part unfortunately

Heat up the outside to expand the case.

Good suggestion. Guess I'll have to be careful of those fumes from heated battery acid though.

With mine I can unscrew the lens cap (the whole part you twist to turn on/off/adjust beam).
It come right off, the plastic bit that holds the bulb will either be in the cap or still on the main body of the torch - then it just pulls off.

Is that sarcasm, or didn't you study Chemistry at school?  Probably the latter.

But just to put you at ease, here's a video, clearly you'll understand it easier than an analysis of what is actually happening chemically.

Drill into the battery, put a self tapper in and pull out with pliers.
