Gonna stick it in foe MOT today , I know its going to fail but I want to know on what so I can decide if it's good enough to repair or use the money and buy a GTI, can just swap all my bits over then. If it fails and I get a Gti is the power difference between the 8v and the 16v noticeable, I know the 16v is the preferred choice but I can't find any for sale at sensible money!
-
Some people will say no but I noticed a difference, the 16v isn't as slow as people make out, both good cars in my opinion
-
When you say sensible what's your budget? Theres a garage round my way trying to sell one for £2000, never in a million years is it even close to being worth that
-
the 16v should have been the only mk3 that wore the gti badge.......
yes you will notice the difference by a long shot, especially when its kept revving!!
-
I've just found a 16v anni near me needs some love but going to look later.
-
Driven both, but went for an 8v purely because of motorway driving and petrol consumption
The 16v is pretty damn fast when you rev the balls off it, wish i got one in a way, but they're very difficult to find one that hasn't been ragged
The 8v feels fast, but its not very. Though it does feel great when you put your foot down in 1st and 2nd!
-
8v runs out of steam quick!
16v keeps revving and is far quicker and more fun!
-
i had a 8v GTI and i though it was fun enough not that fast the mid range torque is ok though i had a flat panel filter 4 branch exhaust manifold cat back exhaust and it made 125bhp i was shocked at that i can't vouch for the 16v never owned one or been in one
-
Ive drove the 8v, 16v and VR6.
16v is where its at
-
Well somehow things seem to be going my way today, found a 16v anniversary for £550.... Needs some tlc but that dont phase me, my dad has lent me the cash and i managed to get the night of work so going to check it out tonight.... Needs a new rear caliper and 2 track rod ends and a bit of body work sorting.... Oh and its metallic black same as my current one!

Not in Oldham is it?
Went to look at one there and it was fudged to pieces. The guy took me for a spin in it and almost killed me
-
