Post by: 67buggers on 01 August 2012, 23:56
Just wipped out my headlight switch and found an extra plug, Any ideas what the red plug goes to?

It's the plug in for the headlamp adjuster switch.

It's the plug in for the headlamp adjuster switch.

This, it's for cars with motors in the headlights to adjust the lights. If your car doesn't have them, there will be nowhere for it to plug into:

On the topic of adjustable headlights...I have just bought a pair for joey modding which appear to be adjustable (Black plug recepticle thing on corner of headlights as opposed to blanks on standards). Now, will the wiring to plug these in at the headlight end be hanging around there somewhere?

No it won't be there, you need the headlight levelling specific loom that runs along the slam panel. its something I fitted on my own car.

ah right surely if you have the plug that connects to the switch ,you should have the loom to the lights aswell right ?,obviously depending on what year your car is ,feel free to tell me to stfu if im wrong or being blonde lol

It might be the same dash loom with the plug, but terminates at the fuse box,  so you would have to add the front engine room harnes into the fuse box and the rest will be there for you.

All cars as far as im aware came with the plug fitted in the dash loom but as the headlight levellers were an optional extra the front section of loom wont be there. it'sd very easy to change and can be done in 30mins with no electrical faffing or wire cutting involved. It's a simple plug and play swap over.

Yep all you need to do is change the slam panel wiring loom for one the headlight adjusters.

The rest of the car is wired for it so its a simple job.

Pretty sure the early spec 3's didn't have the red plug on the car loom so if you are pre 95, double check you have the red plug there first before going out and buying the loom, adjusters etc
