My rear brake pads need changing so i purchased brembo ones of ebay for £17 (dont know if thats a good price or not). I was looking on the forum for some type of tutorial but couldn't seem to find one, if anyone could help it would be great, i just need a little guidance to get me going :)

I have not done them on my golf yet but I remember when I did them on my focus I took the wheel off, then you should see 2 bolts when you undo them I found a clip that when you undo it it releases the brake pad, however on the rear (of the focus) i needed a specail tool to retrack the piston in order to install the new pads not sure if this is on the golf.

yes you need a tool to wind the piston in to fit the new pad not really a hard job and can be done with long nose pliers just easier with the right tool

I done this job a couple of weeks ago, ended up buying a piston wind back tool.
The rear pistons need turning as well as pushing back to free up space for the new discs.
Principle is the same as the fronts but using the tool, whind in the pistons fit new pads and reassemble. Job done!
But you will need a wind back tool makes it so much easier, I'm only in loughton if you fancy it I will give you a hand with my piston tool, saves you a few quid? :wink:

Open bonnet, remove brake fluid filler car, wheel off, caliper bolts out, caliper off, remove pads, wind caliper back, fit new pads, build back up in reverse.

jack car up, remove brake fluid cap, remove rear wheels. undo the 13mm bolts that hold caliper to carrier , then you need a 15mm spanner to hold the sliders other wise you;ll just be turning the 13mm bolt forever haha the 15 mm holds the sliders so you can undo the bolts :), then slide the caliper off might need a screw driver if there stiff, get some wd 40 spray the boot around the piston on the caliper otherwise you will twist the boot and then crack it and then you will get water and damp in them in the years to come, wind the pistons back clock wise might be stiff, halfords sell caliper tool, remove the old pads cllean the caliper carrier with a wire brush then copper grease the contact points on the new pads (not the part of the pad which touches the disc) re build in reverse order and pump the brake pedal once done do not pull the handbrake first also dont try driving without pumping the brakes as you will have no brakes before you pump them

cheers guys i managed to do it, my friend had a wind back tool, lost my locking key in the process but its weird because my friend with a Audi tt has the exact same key lol, we now share lol

My bro lost my lock nut :angry: Fuming I was! I'd take it out and replace with a standard or get a new lock nut set. Not a good idea to be caught short without a lock nut! :sad:

doubt they will sell you just the key part mate. normaly they are only allowed to sell a full locking nut set

lol im willing to buy a new set, dont want my alloys getting nicked now that i know every key in the world aren't different
theyre all the same :shocked:
