Title: Best Broadband Deal
Post by: Shady Pioneer on 31 July 2012, 23:35
I'm moving into a flat with Chelsea at the end of August, and I haven't the foggiest what's what at the moment.

We don't want to pay too much but want the best for the money, using computers, iPads, iPhones and Xboxs pretty much everyday so download limits need to be decent, if line rental can be included then ace, if not it's not the end of the world.

Anyone got any ideas?

Also, need a fridge freezer, any ideas?

PlusNet are cheap and provide a good service, their cheapest package is £6 something a month with line rental at around £12 a month. Worked out to £19 for phone + broadband with a 10Gb download cap - the price may be cheaper if you live in a low cost area, which you'll need to check on their website by plugging in your postcode and phone number. I really do rate PN, if you do decide to join with them PM me for a referral

Oh and I've got a bar fridge and table top freezer (missing a shelf) you can have if you pick them up

The £6.99 per month is if you live in the low cost area

I've been with Plusnet for nearly 2 years now and haven't had a days trouble   Only ever spoken to customer services once and that was to setup the account!

Just recently upgraded to Plusnet Pro which gives you 60gig download limit for an extra £5 per month

It all depends on who has a lease on the exchange you will be using. When I was looking I found o2 to be the best deal but the lower cost was only available to o2 enabled exchanges. Had to go with BT

Thanks for the input guys.

I will look into Plusnet, have you had any issues with Xbox Live or is it pretty good? I've given up on Live where I am now as the net is so sh!t I can't be arsed.

We were considering Sky as it would be nice to have Sky TV again but it's costly. Once you factor in line rental too that's about £50 a month, granted we are splitting the costs but still.

I wanted Virgin Media but because Yeovil is in the dark ages fibre optic isn't available.

Yeovil are getting fiber to the cab by 31st December 2012. If your wanting the quick speeds i'd go with BT then upgrade to Infinity when its available.

Quick speeds, high download limit and value for money is what I want. How do you know about fiber optic with Yeovil coming then?

PN have been very good and they have a range of packages available, have a look on their website

I wouldn't rely on sites like Samknows for FTTC availability, it says it's available in our area at work and has for the last year yet when we place an order with BT it fails because it's not actually available - same as for my home line on the other side of Oxfordshire  which is why we went for a leased 100Mb (1Gb burstable) fibre line

Just had a quick look on Plusnet's site, looks good value. Is it worth going for the Pro package? Rhyso have you actually noticed a difference when gaming since going Pro?

Never had any issues with it; only issue I've had is the fact I live so far from the exchange that my download speed is around 3.5mb   But that's because our exchange is in the dark ages despite the fact is slated for a major upgrade......

Sounds promising then, I'll have to check what the speed will be but should be decent enough with any luck. Worth going for the Pro service do you think?

Adam, I'm not too fussed about mega speeds, 6mb+ would do me fine, I currently share a 3mb connection with 6 other people!

I've gone for the Extra @ £11.49 per month for the 60gig limit.  I also have phone calls with them and my bills are around £25 a month for the lot.  That's as long as Linzi doesn't natter for ages on the phone

The connection has been rock solid in the time I've used it apart from perhaps 2/3 occasions where the connection has dropped for about 2-3 minutes.

No worries   They might not be the cheapest about any more but for me the lack of hassle and trouble I've had its been worth it

It uses the same BT database Samknows and the ISP's use, despite FTTC being "available" in Wallingford, it's not available in my part of Wallingford. All FTTC availability means is that the Exchange is FTTC enabled and the required % of the cabinets have had the fibre run to them. BT's fibre roll out sucks.
