Title: Turtlewax waterless wash (thought I'd try it)
Post by: rolty_gti on 30 July 2012, 13:54
Well as stated I thought I'd give 1 of these waterless wash hobbies a go.
Bought turtlewax waterless wash system for a tenner, comes with bottle of spray and a fairly sized microfiber towel.

Just spray on a panel at a time wipe off and buff up any leftover residue.
I highly doubted this stuff knowing I'd have to get out the buckets straight after, but I was pleasantly surprised to say this stuff actually works and my car was fairly dirty, it done a good job! Although I did have to get out some tar remover for some stubborn dirt and grime on the lower half of the car.

You can clearly see the difference, it removes dirt easily.
All done

As you can see the end results look good! Leaves a nice smear free shiny smooth surface.
I topped up the wax coat straight after washing the car with the turtlewax stuff with a coat of nattys paste wax(smells lovely, I could've took a bite lol).

Very happy with the end result.
I will be using the rest of the bottle up for sure, this stuff saves a lot of time if like me your car isn't kept right near your house or water supply.
It doesn't scratch your paintwork although obviously if your car is really dirty rinse/wash as you normally would otherwise you will get stones grit etc in the microfiber and scratch the hell out of your paint.
It makes paintwork, glass, plastic trim, door jams etc gleam without that much effort!
Would definantly recommend to anyone.

Thats a nice looking motor but waterless wash ??? Did it leave any swirls ? Why would you not use the 2 bucket method ?  :undecided:

Yep a waterless wash, spray it on and wipe it off.I do normally use the two bucket method but wanted to try this stuff as a few people I know use it for there cars and said it was quick and easy without having to refill buckets etc. so thought I'd give it a go just out of curiosity more than anything..nope doesn't leave any swirl marks at all,but I wouldn't use it on a heavily soiled car as then you would definantly get stone scratches etc.but I think from now on when my golf needs a quick rinse off I will be using this stuff :)

Looks good BUT I do share Steve's worries, I to have used waterless stuff before(on previous car) of course! and it did suffer from swirls over time, I wud use it sparingly...i.e not every wash, maybe once every few months...

I personally never will use waterless stuff again, esp not my new baby or the GTD

Ahhh I see,so overtime it does develop swirls? To be fair I only bought it to what the fuss was about lol,but now I've tried it I will still use the 2 bucket method and just use this now and again when it needs a quick dusting off.

Interesting but use that on a dark car and no doubt you would see the scratches. Just by touching a dusty panel with your finger can leave fine scratches!

Must have a lot of fillers?

Wouldn't you go through a load of mf cloths?? It would be many after one swipe! How would you rinse the dirt off the cloth with no water...

Just use a few mf clothes, the 1 you get with the kit is fairly big but I was using that 1 to wipe off at first then using another I have to buff off, then afterwards just wash them out as you would regularly.

Back when I used a waterless product I only used 2 MF at one time as my car(s) are never really dirty....one wiped on and the other buffed, MF are very absorbant... but I did always rinse the car of first before applying any product, so I guess that helped too!

The theories are great but don't thing I could ever use them. I use showroom shine after I've washed, leathered.

What the Grease Lightening stuff? cus If so that's the waterless product I used...it was blinking annoying when it came to washing my grille as it wud leave white marks regardless of how much I buffed it...

I was tempted to try the Megs waterless wash stuff. I got the bloke to demonstrate it to me on the stand at Inters on their quite dirty, black A5. It looked very good as he did it...then the sun came out.

Yeah that's it, the trick is for the awkward bits it apply it to a cloth before hand. It's the nuts for black tar spots.

I know I seem to maybe be bashing the stuff, which I don't mean to as it quality stuff...I brings out a fantastic shine regardless of what colour your motor is....my bro used a lot of it when I had some last and all I keep hearing is "are get the next lot" still blinking asnt put his hand in his pocket

Have you tried the side test? You simply cannot lean against your motor(not that I due it often lol) I just make a point of it when cleaning my motor to test how good the finnish is!!!
