I have red rear lights and when I indicate they are obviously red and when I reverse they are red, I try not to indicate and reverse unless absolutely necessary

take your reverse bulbs out. If they're not fitted, they can't test them

Your reverse light isn't required for an mot so that sorts that half ;)

The reverse light doesn't come into the test at all, an mot tester will rarely even put the car ibto reverse other than to back it out of the garage

You want some amber led bulbs with resistors, they will still light up orange through the reds. Thats what i'm putting in my Mk3 once ive tinted the rears red. Someone told me halfords have them on offer just now. Might be worth a look.

anyone know which resistors are needed then?

50 Watt / 6 Ohm for indicators should be fine.

and I take it I place them between the wiring to the bulb  :undecided:

Yeah, its because the leds use less power an without the resistors they would flash too quickly as if you have a blown bulb.
