Title: Reversing - Wing Mirrors Point Downwards - How Do I Do This?
Post by: MK6-Fan on 29 July 2012, 19:06
I have a 2012 Golf 'Match' & when I was on the test drive with the dealer back in May, he showed me a thing that when I put the car into reverse both mirrors pointed downwards (a very cool feature that I liked.)

Does anyone else know how to do this as it doesn't say in my handbook anywhere about how to do it & he never told me how to do it?

Cheers

I thought only 1 mirror pointed down at a time....on the GTI you set the mirror switch to either left or right and go into reverse...

On the GTD/GTI ect ect...you put the knob in the required position and the mirror points down but I thort the curb view only applied to the left wing mirror? And the only way of switching it to the right is vagcom correct?

I'm 95% sure that both mirrors went down at the same time when he showed me at the dealership. I don't remember him saying to me to flick the knobs or anything, he just said stick it in reverse & watch the mirrors tilt downwards.

You have to set it to how low you want it to go etc. I remember someone posting how on here before. Think you have to put it in reverse then adjust your passenger mirror to its new low setting. Then when you take it out of reverse it goes back to its original position. something like that. I think its in the manual somewere. Its to do with kerb view. iirc it only happens on the passenger side. I don't have lux pack/folding mirrors so i don't have that feature anyway.

I don't have Lux Pack either but mine drops, I think you get it when you have front and rear parking censors too.

This is only available with the Luxury Pack, and its only the passenger wing mirror that drops when reversing iirc

For confirmation either speak to dealer or VW website (car configuration)

Not sure of available options via VAGCOM

Sorry to correct you but I don't have Lux Pack but it works on mine, IRRC front and rear parking sensors also get the function.

I don't have the luxury pack only front\rear sensors and it's fitted and works on mine. Set up is on the highline computer and it's controlled by the little silver mirror selector thingy. Turn the switch onto the left mirror and the left mirror dips, turn it onto the right mirror and it dips when reverse is engaged. As Snoopy mentioned earlier, you set the mirror dip position to suit you and it remebers this for next time

Oops, posted at the same time

Sorry Jimbo and Harty, but we all have GiT's where some options are provided compared to other Golf models. I simply scanned VW for the Golf Match model and noticed that this option is available via the Lux Pack

Just to add, the dealer didn't have to flick a switch when he put it into reverse as you can leave the dial on "L" and it automatically dips when you put it into reverse. But like others have said, it is only the passenger side this happens with and it is a great feature to have except when you are parking on the opposite site of the road

My R has front and rear sensors (no lux pack) and the passenger mirror dips when reversing.

I wonder if that means I have the better door controllers which would support folding mirrors - anyone know?  Thanks.

Same as my GTi, and several others who have posted.

Finally got the mirror to work today chaps. Put it into left hand position on mirror knob &  the passenger mirror dipped as you all said it would but not drivers too for some reason??

I'm pretty certain it's only the near side mirror that dips - I think it's described by VW in their
Iiterature as 'dipping kerbside mirror'.

I've got both the luxury pack and front/rear parking sensors and only the near side mirror dips; that's the important one, so you can see how close to the kerb you are when parking up, and hopefully avoid scraping your wheels.

Because they don't dip both sides, only passenger side.

The drivers mirror never dipped?  That's p*ss poor if you ask me. Ignore the countless and obviously clueless folk that have told you it is only the passenger side mirror that dips, the one with the "L" on the knob and go back to your dealer. As he obviously knows what he's doing.
