I have been surfing proper for a few years now (used to body board when I was younger).
My local area is Scarborough , tend to get out more in winter when there are less people about.
Went to newquay a few weeks ago and it was crowded already.
I am rubbish at it but I really love it.
That first wave that hits you square in the face is the best hangover cure there is

Bodyboard at least twice a week  live 15 mins from Newquay on the south coast. Gonna smash all of Europe in a T4 in September as well
-
tried bodyboarding last week and it was awesome.. seriously want to try surfing now... i can snowboard so I am hoping there are some transferable skills there

I preferred bodyboarding to surfing, in SA surfers had to be out the water by 8am on the main beaches and had to head off to less pleasant shores but us bodyboarders were allowed to stay all day because we had better control of our boards - and we didn't knock people the f**k out if you did ride over them. The only problem was if you bailed on a wave, using your feet with was on and your calf muscle went into a spasm and popped out on place  Other than that getting your face dragged across the sea bed wasn't so bad if you f**ked up on a wave, face full of sand, mmmmm yum

Love it, used to go a couple of times a year but haven't been for years now. I also love bodyboarding.

Yeah Bodyboarding is fun too, i find surfing much more fun because i find it harder.
Guy, with Snowboarding experience you should really adapt to Surfing quite quickly!

I travel to Cornwall for three weeks in the summer and have done for the last few years (currently in perranporth but go home tommorrow ) I'm not to bad at actually surfing its just being fit Enough to get out past all the breaking waves

Join SAS, you should if you want to surf in clean water!
I dont do it so much nowadays due to work and other commitments and mostly bodyboard now but still enjoy when I can.

I've surfed on and off for 20 years, been round Ireland in a camper and surfed some world class breaks, Easkey left at double overhead was just awesome, we stayed there a week!!
Locally surf all round the North Wales coast depending on swell and wind direction, don't get out as much as I would like due to working stupidly long hours but quite recently bought a longer board as the 6ft boards I used to ride are too hard work these days!! I keep telling myself to go out more often and I will....

I used to bodyboard almost every day when I was younger, used to live in a small village called Crantock near Newquay lived literally 10 min walk from the beach. It was awesome! I miss it sometimes but no chance of going back anytime soon as the misses hates it down there bloody townies
Considered myself to be pretty good at it though now I'd probably be laughing material for the locals

i go to cornwall every year have done for the last 20 years or so. i bodyboard because its easyer to store the board when im at home and get it in the car, but think im going to have surf lessons or just rent a board and have a crack myself next year.
-
Rented boards are usually the rubber foam things that the surf schools use.
The surf shops in Newquay will rent out proper boards.

Is anyone familiar with north west Wales?
I am going tomorrow for a few days and am taking the boards. Anywhere quiet to go?

I drive through Porthmadog every morning on my way to work. You won't get any surf on Black Rock ever but its a nice big sandy beach.
Your only hope of any surf in the next week or so will be Hells Mouth (Porth Neigwl) or Porth Ceriad (stunning break but a hard unforgiving wave) both near to Abersoch.
Have a look here: http://www.westcoastsurf.co.uk/surfreport.htm for Hells Moth daily surf report and webcam
