Title: The best indication of the Mk7 yet?
Post by: andykram on 25 July 2012, 10:05
Apologies that this is in German but :-

http://www.autobild.de/artikel/vw-golf-vii-vorschau-3529031.html

A few pointers

Bildgallerie = the piccy section (and there is a rendering of the GTi in there)

The Antrieb section talks about power plants. 220 bhp for the GTi, 290bhp for the R and they haven't discounted an RS with 375bhp

Preis, mehr Golf fur mehr Geld = more money but you get more for it. Meanwhile, it says VW will make even more money out of each one cos it's cheaper to build.

40 to 100 kg lighter.
Lots of other technical stuff which I won't bore you with.

Proof if ever anyone needed it that Google Translate doesn't work!!!!! Total nonsense and nothing anywhere near what the German is saying!!!!

Personally, the car looks just like a Mk6 to me i.e. rather staid and dull. It does put the GTi down at 6 secs 0-60 due to the weight loss but it's just a little bit underwhelming and boring for me now.

Well the point of the gti was to be a peoples fast affordable practical car. But now it's getting further out of "people's" reach.

To be honest tho the looks will put people off first!

Yeah but the new 1 series looks dog ugly. I have to admit if the mk7 GTD is as good as the mk6 GTD, I will want one. (price pending, especially if its got more horsepower and with anyluck 4wd.

i think it looks ok , but it needs to be more than 220ps for me to be interested unless it starts at 20k

Hitler proposed to build a cheap car that almost anyone could afford 'the peoples car'. He gave it the name “KdF Wagen,” which we know as the Volkswagen.

Looks like his plans are going horribably wrong with the mk7 then

I hope VW keep it real and realise that they are not top brand car, leave that to Audi in the VW Group and make an affordable GTI.

I think that VW should of kept the lupo as that had the potential to be the modern (when it was still in production) mk1 gti.

at the rate its going the golf will become the size of a MPV and the cost of a small bungalow! VW need to go back to basics a small car with an engine with a fizz.

Think it looks okay but as everyone has said it needs to be more than 220ps.  The problem comes when the GTI goes up what happens to the R??  The GTI is an icon but I agree the price is too much, way out of peoples price bracket especially when the build quality seems to be going down.

To be honest, for me to get a MK7 they need to reduce the price and improve the quality.......

I reckon £26/£27k basic for the Mk7 plus options.

You'll pay all that for example and still have to pay extra for cruise control, sat nav because it's a GTi. Next door's Passat estate has those as standard.

My plan at present is to mod the Mk6 and run it into the ground ad replace the wife's 123 cab with another BM as I refuse/am unable to pay £27k plus for a GTi when I could get a quicker car for £20k from countless other manufacturers. The VW badge is not worth in my eyes what VW reckon it's worth.

I quite like its understatedness. That suits me quite nicely. I'm also not bothered about the comparative performance.

My plan is to change the aging Passat next year for another substantial family hack, then start saving for an ED40 as a weekend / show / keep for ever toy.

Yes but thats not an offical pitcure is it.

If you search google you will see so many variations on a similar theme.

Lets wait till we get real pictures and data to be the judge.

I think we can all agree though the price will not be to most's taste.
