Title: 3rd year service and first MOT
Post by: gizzywizzy on 24 July 2012, 20:39
My car is 3 years old this week and is due its final service under the 3 year service plan bought at time of purchase, and also as it will be 3 needs a current MOT certificate.  Am hoping VW service department don't find anything major amiss with the car which during its first three years has been a perfect car which has now spoilt me for the competition as nothing in this group matches my car for build quality and superior ride.

Hi, thought you'd given up on us? I'm sure ya dealer will go over it with a fine tooth comb if prompted to. They'll appreciate the warranty work as they get abetted rate and can often complete the task in less time than VW UK quote.

Mine was three year old recently and the dealer did a pre end of warranty check prior to the MOT.

They tried it with me and my reply was, why would I buy a brand new model that's just about to be replaced....

They gave up the sale attempt quite quickly after that.

Mine went through its MOT at the end of June without any better. I bought mine just before VW started selling the service package 3 and a bit years ago but I did buy a package this time which gave me the 3rd and 4th services (the 4th is the big one) and two MOTs for £379. I didn't think that was bad bearing in mind two MOTs are £100 odd on their own and the 4th service was £250 odd ish. Yes, they'll get their money with brake pads and other consumables no doubt but so far, so good - 3 years and no bother at all.

I just have to wait until the end of September now when I can get a new insurer who'll allow me to mod it!!!!!

Did you all get the brake fluid change on the 3 year service, those of you that have the service plan? My 3 year service is due next January I'm just wondering if it part of the service or they charge you extra?

not for that price. cam belt and water pump alone is £429 on the VW website. although this may well be slightly cheaper for the mk6.... i doubt it  :lipsrsealed:

Maybe I'm wrong, but doesn't the Mark 6 GTI not have a timing chain?

you are correct... but does it mean that vw would lower the price

With a chain the theory is you won't need to replace it (although certain related parts i.e. guides might need replacing)

On the GTD IIRC it is still a belt

Yes I got the brake fluid change as part of this £379 plan I just bought.

The GTi engine is a chain so doesn't need the belt doing on the 4th year. Haven't looked to see why the 4th one is the "big one" but I assume they must be doing something exciting!!!!????

I was just under the impression that chains did not have to be replaced as often as belts, if at all.
Would be a bit miffed to pay that sort of money if it didn't need doing.

PS I got the 3rd service done last month at £175 including the brake fluid which was not that bad in my opinion seeing as the previous owner didn't get the service pack.

Brake fluid changed FOC and it sailed through its MOT...very happy bunny with 3 years of trouble free motoring now under my belt.

They tried to sell me a new Tig just cos I looked in its window in passing, but I am more than happy with my GTI and told them so, was always gonna keep it a while anyway and it still only has 15,500 on the clock.

They did the brake fluid separately on mine, the price was £89 but got them to reduce it to £36!!!!!

I would be shocked if a 3 year old car didn't pass its MOT unless tyre or wipers related.

Still got 5mm of tread on my tyres too, mind they are only on for 6 months then swapped for winters for the other 6.

All good here.
Just got back from a 1600 mile round trip to Berlin, 5 passengers and roof box (can you have roof bars on a 3 dr btw).?

3 yr service from the plan. (brake fluid change included after I reminded them)

MOT + tax at £195. Ouch.

Anyone gone for the extended warranty??

Best 3 yrs motoring by far.

31k happy miles.
