The noise is getting louder, at first i thought it was the exahust but i have ruled that out!
I here the clicking on full lock, going slow, sound like the CV's?
Any other symptoms i should be noticing to know it is definatelly them?
How much is it to replace the CV joints and what's involved, what parts do i need and is it a difficult job?

Ive just done my CV boot gaiter. That wasnt too hard. in my personal opinion i wouldnt buy a new CV i'd get a complete driveshaft used one, its gonna make life easier.
First speak to this guy lucymac2000@hotmail.com tell him I gave u his email (dave@getripped.co.uk) and the complete bits you need.
Undo the driveshaft nut... then the remove the road wheel. Your see the suspension struct infront of you. remove the two lower bolts on the struct, support the whole stucture with a jack so not to put to much stress on it. The u should be able to remove the steering ball joint so u can twist the hub to remove the driveshaft. Then in the inner CV side ur will have to undo and remove all the studs holding the inner CV in place. Then with the used driveshaft and CV just replace and ur laughing!!!

Hi mate, so is it just the boot gaiter that needs to be replaced then?
and why is it easier to repalce the whole driveshaft? i would rather fit new bits to be honest!

u can get under the car and check the gaitor... if its gone there will be a sh!t load of oil all over the place.
Well if u replace the who driveshaft with a used one.. ur get both ends. where as if u get new bits ur have to start taking apart the driveshaft, which is a pain in the arse.

I personally wouldn't replace the whole driveshaft with a used one, as you don't really know the state of the outer cv joint until it's fitted. The removal of the outer cv joint is a relatively easy job, but if your doing it on the driveway with a scissor jack, it can be a pain in the rectum :cry: . If you get the parts some places will do the job quite cheap enough. I see you're in south wales, anywhere near Bristol as Graham Batt is a very recommended VW specialist, if not any decent mechanic should be able to this with one arm tied behind his back - that is is if the retaining clip isn't a 5hit!!

I'll check the gaitors, if they are fine could it still be the CV's or something else? I only thought it was the CV's because everyone in work tells me when i pull off :)
