Title: how low can u go

thinking of lowering me golf by about 35-40 mm thing is do i just go for springs or get the whole shebang . ive read on one of the suspension sites that it could be dangerous to change the springs and not the dampers because its possible for the spring to pop out fo place is it true or are they just trying to get you to speend more dosh ...

do the whole lot looks better you can boast about it gives a better ride and it is just better

It's worth doing the shocks and springs as the ride will be choppy with the standard shockss and they will wear out quicker as they are not designed for lower ride height.
Springs can dislodge with standard shocks, but it is very rare and normally would only occur with lowering springs of minus 60mm or more on standard shocks. More likely it is to be a problem at MOT if the car is jacked in the air and on some cars (V**xhall rear suspension) the springs can fall out, which some MOT places fail the car on.

:-[ had a Nova that was so low and the rear springs so short that when you jacked it up they would fall out. Had to cable tie them in. Now that is professional!  :-[
