I've never seen an L reg before, but according to DVLA, it was first registered on 3-8-93, so that adds up.

It could either have been sitting around in a compound for a good while before it was eventually sold, or perhaps was originally bought overseas by someone in the services, then first registered in this country when it was brought home. Stranger things have happened.

An unregistered one that remained unsold ??? or possibly one bought abroad maybe by someone in the forces and registered with that's years plate. It's changed now but back then if you imported a car you could get the current years plate on it.

It always seemed odd to me that in this country we automatically date cars from the date of registration rather than the actual build date. It could as I said just have been lying around unsold in a dealers yard.

I would guess the dealer kept hold of it for a while in the showroom then sold it, it does seem odd however.
