Does anyone know of a good mechanic who is able to do a complete 1.8t conversion to my mk2 and any idea of costs? Thinking of doing it to mine.

pm f17 bad sure he will advise you

This, he's based up in Leeds but when you see the quality of the conversions he does it'll be worth the travelling.

Thanks guys.

How many actual customer conversions has he done now then?
-
Isn't the caddy the first customer one ?

Yeah, but there's also Brad's and Ben's MK3s which are both pretty damn impressive.

But money-no-object conversions for yourself (not a customer) don't really count for a business, do they?

True, but it is still an example of what they are capable of.
-
done 5 cars to be exact, not that it really matters
plus i answer / help god knows how many people who PM me on here and other forums...
next car is now in the workshop, which is a mk3 estate car, ill add it on here soon.. just need to finish my big turbo conversion first
And money is always a object.. I'm not a lottery winner... just a white guy trying to survive and give the MK3 some respect

Please dont comment on things you know nothing about. I know just how much Brad has had to work and save to get his car done to the standard it is, if money really was no object then why would we be doing everything in stages, surely he would have just thrown his large cheque book  at it a year ago and done everything then.
Yes the Caddy was the first customer car, then a mk4 1.8T, then another mk4 1.8T and as Brad has just said we are starting another 1.8T into a mo3 Golf estate and then another mk3 VR conversion booked in for September.
I get really annoyed when, know it all, arseholes put ther two pence in when they haven't actually seen any of our work in the flesh.
Getting back to the op, contact me or Brad (F17BAD) on here.
Cheers for all the support by the way guys, much appreciated
-
I know I'd be giving you guys a call if I had the money. loving your vr Ben!
-
Cheers Murray, all the support we get really is appreciated
All our installs include a full bay detail and engine detail so even if you are on a bit of a tight budget the install will still look like its just rolled out of the factory.
I would really like all the haters to just come and see F17BAD in the flesh so i could see the look on their faces.

Money also goes into time, especially on customer cars. One would expect more to be spent on labour on these projects than parts, to be honest. The challenge is doing the labour within the budget.

That's two conversions for customers then.
Wasn't one of them for Brad's Dad?
What happened to the camper that was talked about?
Sadly for you, it's a public forum and people need to be realistic about the customer experience that goes into conversions.
Got any public liability insurance for your work yet? If so, great!
-
If you do or don't go to brad and ben for the conversion they still both know a hell of a lot about it and its well worth dropping some questions, I consider myself to be far from up to the job of doing someone elses conversion but I still get a lot of people asking me about it 3 or 4 times a week (and regularly send them off in brads direction ). it's surprising when you do something for a while how much you realise other people dont know about it!
though I've also noticed an increasing amount of people asking questions about trying to do it on a tight budget. It's not a cheap thing to do and if you dont have at least 50% more money available to you than what you are expecting to pay I would advise against starting just yet :)

Thanks for support and warm words from those that would rather not hate and participate in the evolving company me and Ben would like to set up
Thomas why do u constantly throw hate at me? Are you really this pathetic face to face ? Are u coming to any shows so I can meet u face to face ??
Caddy, 2 mk4's and a mk2 have been done for other people
We did my dads Mk4 too which was not for profit
The camper van is still one been spoke about but if the owner can't afford it theirs not much I or Ben can do till he is in the position to do so
We don't force anybody to come our way but we are more than happy with the quality of our conversions
And I'm always happy to help answer questions. I can appreciate that it's quite a daunting task when you have never done it before
Is getting quite boring having diamond bell try put us down when we are trying to do something... Some people would say its a cnunts trick...
-
Cheers Dan.
DH, I seem to be missing the point on the'how many customers cars have you done'
Its irrelevent! When we did Brads and my conversion we were never thinking of doing it for other people but people see the work we do and want us to do the same to their cars, the work speaks for itself. Why you are trying to belittle a business, that Brad and I are trying to set up, at every given opportunity is beyond me, jealousy maybe?? I dont know, but its about time you grew up. You dont see me or Brad hi-jacking threads, bad mouthing you or the things you do, so maybe you should be as courtious. Its like my nan used to say, if you've nothing nice to say, go f**k yourself

It's just nice to see a balanced view, as some people are talking about you as if you've years of experience in the engine conversion business, which isn't the case.
It's nice that people like Brad's car, but it's only fair that some reality's bought into the discussion.
Got that important third party liability insurance yet, then?

Lots of people have done the 1.8T conversion, Brad and Ben just happen to be two active members on here who have done them and are quite knowledgable on the subject.
If they are aspiring to start an engine conversion business, then one thing they'll need to look at is insurance. But if they don't have liability insurance at the moment, that's up to them, although they could cover themselves by getting customers to sign a waiver of some sort.
All businesses should have insurance of some sort, for example photographers need public liability insurance too, but how many keen amateurs do without.
As for these guys starting up a business, they've got a lot to do (including paperwork) to get off the ground and should be encouraged.
As for the original poster, how much of a budget do you have and do you want a big company doing it and everything for you or do you want a smaller business doing it?
If you want a quote from Brad and Ben, then message them directly.
Back in the early days of this forum a 1.8T conversion wasn't so common and garages could charge over £5k for one.

In about 2 to 3 weeks time our unit will be up and running along with our website, from that point we will be taking on customers cars aswell as building a few projects ourselves, from that point we will of course have liability insurance. I shall scan a copy and send it to you DH, just for your own piece of mind
At the end of the day, people have seen what we can do, they like it and they tell other people, there is no denying what we do is very good and we are more than happy to do it to other peoples caars or just offer friendly advice if you want to do it yourself.
End of discussion please :lipsrsealed:

Well thank heavens we have independent verification of that. We should definitely take your word on these things and not say anything more.

I think its good to see brad and ben going for it and everyone's got to start somewhere but DH does make valid points, yes he's a c##t but still valid.

Keep it up Brad, you're doing what some people said would never happen
