Title: high idle

My car is idling at 1100 and sounds like a diesel!! It's a 1.8 gti 1999. Sometimes it will drop to about 900 and sound normal. Is there anything I can do to fix this!!

Any advise welcome

Clean the throttle body pal chances are its black as the ace of spades with carbon deposits use a can of carb cleaner on it remove it from the car to do it :)
