wouldnt trust any of those monkeys near my car :smug:
-
Effectively MOT testers all have to follow the same training from VOSA as any other garage.

so you would trust a halfords mechanic fixin your car :undecided:
-
Thats not what the topic is about. Mechanic and MOT tester is different.

i know but your sayin all mot testers do the same training from vosa so should all be the same
-
Mechanics dont get training from VOSA. Mechanics fix things....MOT testers inspect vehicles according to a strict rulebook.
Big difference.
halfords, back street garage, main dealer....all MOT testers get the same training and refresher courses now and again.

Trained or not, no way on this earth would my car be mot'd by Halfords.
-
Why the f**k not?
12mths ticket for £27, the rest of the work (which you should know about) is done by you, no?
-
Only thing is they might pick up on more things that are borderline, which may be advisory at any other station.
Really cant go wrong for £27, and do the repairs yourself as Lewy said.
-
In VOSA's eyes, borderline means its safe.
F**cked is f**cked!

This.
A MOT tester is not a mechanic, therefore they will not be touching you car will they.
Blinkers. Off.

Cheapest price I've seen, I got the mrs's car done for £30 from Udrive...
-
The only concern id have is at that price there probably looking for work. I do appreciate theres a manual to follow but some of has to be down to the testers discretion.

as for where my car goes for MOT whever is cheepest or closest when needs must

Had my seat done by Farmers Autocare (scotland) - he failed both back tires, my matewho is a mobile tire fitter came last night to change them and advised they still have 2.5 mm tread on them!

what farmer autocare was that

Falkirk - they do mot's for £30. The seat is getting done tomorrow morning and the golf is getting done in the afternoon which will fail. But I am going to say to him to let him so he thinks twice about failing something that shouldn't be....keep him on his toes!

had an argument with the tester in the farmers at glasgow airport for the exact same thing he told me 2 of ma tyres had failed yet they still had over 2mm on both
-
I wouldn't take it there tbh, 9 out of 10 people won't know what the f**k they're talking about when the tester tells them they're flux capacitor has failed a resistance check on the forward bulkhead! They'll just say, "ok, change it". Thats the difference, and thats where these guys make up their overheads. That coupled with some of the parts they'd use for servicing which are imo, substandard.
If you go to "a backstreet garage", its much easier to build a rapport with the tester. I've taken all my cars to the same guy for years. MOT is £40, but he knows I'd change everything myself, so advises what will need doing soon, or the before the next MOT to save all that. He gives me leeway too when there are things that are "borderline", and suggests I get them done pretty sharpish. Never had a failure yet either.
-
As above.
It makes a massive difference where you take your car for an MOT.
Some are a complete pain in the arse, and will try and fail it on anything they can.
The smaller garages i have used are not 'looking' for work, and will pass the car unless it is really really bad.
The smaller garage are more likely to let little things through, for example a cracked windscreen, which is just a fail.
