my 1993 8v gti failed its mot on emissions, its just had the stem seals replaced but still burning oil and failing emisions also needs welding to both front sills about 18 inches eachside, inside the car under the carpets is spotless! both rear arches have golf ball size holes needing more welding. the car has a full magnex stainless exhaust, four same brand nearly new tyres, piper cone filter, front and rear spoilers and after market side skirts all on top of the original front, rear and side trims etc. whats the best thing to do with it? is it worth anything? scrapyard says they will fetch it for £130 and i can keep the exhaust, reluctant to let it go to the scrapyard with four nearly new tyres and new stem seals, piper filter and body kit! car is a three door in gunmetal grey. NO MOT, NO TAX and SORN?

I'd break it for spares mate, sad as it may seem 8v's are not really worth spending a lot of money on unless it has sentimental value or is an anniversary model.

As said the best option is to break it up for spares if you have the time and space to do this. You will make as much from breaking as you would from fixing up and selling if you are prepared to keep it for some time and then use the efforts to remove parts and post them.

If you live near me I'll give you £130 for it

where you located??

scrappy will let you keep the wheels/tyres as well.
Trouser the cash and be done with it

im in stoke on trent, if anyone wants the whole thing includng 4 matching tyres all hardly used, complete magnex stainless exhaust system, piper cone filter with cleaning and oiling sprays, cylinder head just had stem seals replaced which helped with the oil burning/emissions but still burning 1 litre of oil in 750 miles, please make me an offer if interested, thanks.

All the breaking money usually is in the mechanical parts with the Mk3.
If I were you I would strip as much off as possible that is in reasonable condition (lights, wheels, exhaust, interior if its not worn/torn, window regulators if they are electric, etc etc. If the gearbox is good then pull that.) As for the rest of it, you will end up having it hang around for a while if you try and part it out completely, if you haven't the space/patience to store stuff then send the rest over the bridge.
