Title: Electric Sunroof
Post by: chappers02 on 28 June 2005, 19:34
I've just brought a mk3 GTI 8v - the sunroof worked fine...for 1 day! Now it will only tilt - it seems to jam when I try 2 get it 2slide.
I have tried the manual winder but the roof will still not go back.
I have replaced one of the small clips which the wind deflector arms clip into and this solved the problem temporarily, but now its back!

I've read the other posts but couldn't see1from any1 else with this exact problem!

Any ideas?!

Remove the sunroofs motor and just try it whilst not connected to check if the motors not the problem. If its ok then theres some problem with the runners of the sunroof.
Good luck

Thanks for the advice.

Have discovered that its a problem with the metal locking clip at the back left hand side - a small piece has broken off the back which makes the clip sit higher than its supposed to, so when the roof tries to go back, the two pieces hit into eachother rather than one sliding under the other.

Have ordered a new clip from VW for £6 - doesn't look like it will be particularly easy to fit tho!
