Having a big problem with a Golf Gti(97 P reg), and the alarm.
Took out existing radio and put new one in, whilst putting new one in
I disconnected the battery, before I reconnected the battery i had left the ignition on, when the battery was reconnected, the alarm started, and I have not been able to turn it off by any means since.
Anyone got any solutions , thanks.

A similar thing happened to me when i took my starter motor off on my vr6. I was told the only solution was to send the alarm ecu off and get it re-set. So i called out the RAC and got them to cut the wires!

The alarm has stopped going off now, and the car turns over, but will not start, radio etc all function, any idea what the problem is now, is it immobilised?

The alarm will have an immobiliser that usually cuts off fuel and ignition.

Indeed VR6 is on the nail as usual, alarms are great when they work but a pin in the arse when they go wrong. I would seek the advice of an auto electrician who may be able to sort the alarm out.
I would imagine the alarm has gone pear shaped and may be worth while getting it torn out and a new one put in its place.

Staddon, can I borrow your thread for a second?
I just removed the fuse from my alarm (long story, lets just say getting fed up of flat batteries).
Don't have a keyfob, car still starts okay.
Back of alarm says, "Easy Fit Alarm", is this the factory fit or is it something someone's bolted on afterwards?
