Title: Replacing key
Post by: sharmalini on 19 July 2012, 17:25
I have a mk4 and my flip key looked tatty and now the keyring part has broken. How easy are these to replace? Can I buy a blank one and swap the internals? If not will a key shop cut the key? I think my mate should be able to program it.

just take the chip and other internal bits out of the old one and fit to the new one any key place should be able to cut the blade for you

just be careful you dont damage the chip when removing it

I wouldn't recommend changing the chip bit I just done mine and broke it so now without a car for a week and a £180 VW bill for a new key

yh mine was glued in i would personally just change the bottom bit of the key fob and leave the key bit alone

the key splits in half. the bit with the remote buttons on has the keyring loop so you'd need to reprogram the central locking.

hickleys have an online shop that sell replacement immo chips for pennies, then you just have to find someone with the right kit to match it to the clocks

Well I managed to find a guide and took the key apart. Turns out the chip that is next to impossible to take out fell out as I did!!!! So surely I can just put the internals in the new key??
