Advise needed.
Hotel I stay in during week is having problems and its been suggested that a new router may help.
Its a very old building with thick stone/brick walls, 8 bedrooms and Lounge and Dining Room.
They have two networks at present with boosters as two of the rooms are away from the others.
Netgear? any good?
-
i doubt a hotel would let you upgrade their router for them
-
I'm not intending to! Just looking for recomendations.
-
A hotel will need multiple routers/booster points to get all over coverage! The netgear router would be fine, but it will prob only service two rooms before the integrity is lost due to the stone walls etc.

this what i use at home... its very good

They should really go to a wireless solutions provider to get a properly robust solution, which they can also use to ID guests, as if there are issues with what people are downloading and the ISP comes after them they could be in serious schtuk.
If they don't care about that then go for something Draytek - costs more than some other kit, but is a lot better built and will probably be more reliable.

As I said in my first post, they already have two routers and several boosters!
The existing main router is getting old and needs replacing hence this

That looks like a home toy system!

It may well do but I can sit next to my virgin netgear router and the signal from this is stronger even though its plugged in upstairs. The bonus is you can use it in any plug socket providing its on the same circuit and it will work.

Most houses have upstairs and downstairs rings wired separately.

I thought that may be an issue... but we have 2 totally different circuits at home, the new part being a later extension. It still works fine on any of the plugs in there but you do lose around 10MB extra. The bonus being its physically a hard wired connection so no wireless dropouts as experienced previously.

Update.
Last night I was the only person able to access the internet in the Hotel.
Hotelier said to me on my arrival that other people could not get connected.
I went to the room and was able to connect straight away!
This situation continued all evening, with me having normal speed internet and 3 other people not able to connect.
Explain that!
-
I used the the d-link dir-855 for a couple of years with Virgin media before moving home where I couldnt use it anymore. At the time it was one of the best home use routers I could find but wasn't cheap especially when coupled with d-link dwa 556 xtreme wireless adapter.
I've just gone over to BT Infinity so am now looking into whether there are any similar router upgrades...

You stole all the bandwidth, buffering all those films..

Tissues and bandwidth, what more does a solitary man need these days?
-
Nope!
As I said another guest was trying to get online before I arrived.
So to my mind I got there and switched on my laptop which immediately took priority.
