Title: I've cammed my 8v and need timing help
Post by: tweed on 18 July 2012, 22:06
Done it to the guild on here. Turned it over by hand, yep all good. Started it up and I have lumpy idle. Let it sit for a bit then held it at 2000rpm for a while. Took it out taking it easy for few miles then decided to let it rev up and.......

5000rpm safe limit

Defo out as well because it don't feel right.

A little help on how to time it back up please

The idle will be a little lumpy with cams, because of the greater amount of air/fuel. Take the plugs out and check top dead center on the first firing cyclinder (cant remember firing cycle, 1 3 2 4??) wont be hard to find.
Let us know how it goes

ain't it easier with the timing marks on crank and cam pulley? Its only out a tooth. Just don't know what way.

right had a little read and your right. So set tdc on number one, slip belt off, turn cam to its mark then put it back on.

sound about right?

Normally the inter shaft is out which puts the dizzy out, check line up on dizzy with Cam and N1 in tdc as well as checking the top and bottom end for correct sequence.
Inter shaft moves under its own weight, which is a fecker if you dont have three hands
AGG/ADY engines will throw a fault on the ECU if the cam is too aggressive, what are the specs?

It was two teeth out on the cam and ignition timing was out. Surprised it ran. Changed my backbox too.

Cam is great!! Pulls right up to red instead of dying at 4500rpm

If your thinking of getting one, then do it!

changed the cam seal and rocker cover gasket.

next is light and balanced flywheel and pressure plate, then a vernier pulley and a rr day
